I have a late 2009 iMac 27", and I'd like to use target display mode with my 2006 Mac Pro, so that I can use both machines and one desk. The problem is that the Mac Pro only has DVI outputs. If I get a DVI to Mini Displayport adapter, will TDM work?

I am not 100% sure, but my understanding is the TDM on the 2009 iMac really turn the Mac into a monitor, as long as you can feed the signal in, it can display properly. Anyway, in worst case, just get yourself something like a GT120 (for the cMP), then you can have native display port outport.

So an adapter should work fine for these models? Hopefully it's a cheap fix and not a different card!

It won't work. Has to be mini displayport to mini displayport. I tried it today with a DVI to mini displayport cable and it does not trigger.
