Walmart already has them on display
Stopped by electronics section while picking up some coffee for the wife this afternoon. Of course, they had the 1st gen iPads available at the $100 markdown price, but I was surprised to find the new models on the same shelf. Black only (at my rural walmart.) I didn't check to see all the models available, but they definitely had the 16 and 32g in both Wifi and 3G varieties. They may have had more. They only had a few out. Sorry, I didn't count them.
I asked to buy one. The nice lady behind the electronics counter opened the case, pulled the 16gWifi out for me, and began to ring me up. I was really excited. BUT, the system notified her that she couldn't sell them yet. She (mis)informed me that if I came back after midnight tonight I could get one. We'll see.

The guy also told me that the target greatland might get more because they are a higher volume store, he was probably just guessing though. He did not say ten of each model just ten ipad 2's total. There was another shelf below and I believe they had ipad 1 models down there, I could be wrong though maybe I was just to excited and didnt check.
I can almost assure you they have arrived instore, most likely sent through receiving by UPS delivery, not through the Distribution Center on the trucks.
These are probably all sitting in the loss prevention office locked up ready for tomorrow. Is anyone trying the DPCIs on the price scanner.. or calling up?

Ooh, on shelve at a Wal Mart? I'll have to stop by my local WM and see if I can't get one of the meatheads to sell me one. Of course, today will be the day I actually get a clerk with any brain cells.

Called one walmart in area and asked about ipads2, and buying at midnight. He first said yes and I asked if he had any 64Gb white wifi, came back and said they have 1, and that the ipad2s won't be available to buy till 5pm tomorrow. 1 white 64GB wifi, ouch.
So I guess its back to BB tomorrow.

Speaking of Walmart, I just called one close to me and the guy was pretty much clueless...it was pretty funny.
I asked if they had them for sale...he said "Um, tomorrow at 5pm", so I asked if they will have both the back and white...and he says "Uhh...I don't know nothin' about that, just that the iPod 2 will be for sale at 5pm tomorrow."

So if your story is true then someone at Target may get fired.
Why would someone lie about not being able to buy an iPad? Enough people have reported to seeing them on shelves at walmart that I believe it. As long as they don't sell any before 5pm which it seems like there is something I their system enforcing that I doubt they will get in trouble.
I'm an Electronics Team Member at Target. We start selling them tomorrow but can't even bring them out of the Loss Prevention office until 5:01PM. Displays and shelf labels aren't even supposed to be set until 5. Apple has said if we even tie in displays early they will not replenish iPad stock.
I called my local Walmart:
"Hi, will you guys have the iPad 2 available tomorrow?"
"Yes we will."
"What time are you selling them and how many do you have in stock."
"We'll sell them starting at 5pm and we have 4 of them."
"Is that 4 of a specific model or a certain color?"
"We have 4 in stock"
"...."
"Ok thanks."
I guess I didn't really expect an exact quantity but something better than 4 total...

just got back from walmart sign says Ipad2 on sell March 11,2011 at 5PM

So, can you let us know how many your target will have for sale? both white and black?
sounds like Targets/Walmarts have very little quantity, which seems strange. One of our walmarts said there was 1 white 64GB wifi
Gonna hope that BB gives out vouchers at 4:30 and if no white 64GB, than I head to the walmart and hope to get that 1...
Sounds about right to me. I went through many an Apple launch at Target and they almost never got many in stock to start.

Please. Target would never, I repeat never give up that much information on their systems to anyone. Even Apple. There is zero chance (or at least it's highly unlikely) that Apple has access to the state of the ties on every store. The only way they'd know is if someone reported on it with pictures. Empty threat. It wouldn't be the first time a big vendor lied.
Ex. Nintendo wanted Target to put up huge black/white Wii displays last summer claiming Target corporate okayed it. (Highly unlike Target). Yeah, it promptly got thrown in the trash before the rep was out the door. The following day corporate sent a message board down that told all stores to toss the displays. Having guessed correctly and taken action the day before I was completely satisfied (didn't hurt that I disliked the fanboi rep).

And coming from someone who managed a Target, yes, someone can and will (if the proper channels are followed) get fired over pushing stuff to the floor before they are supposed to. I had to let go employees for pushing Blurays and DVD's to the floor before release date.
