Well you would return it at 89 days then buy a new one so you would get a new 90 days. I don't plan on doing it, but can't say the thought hasn't crossed my mind

I really loathe you people who abuse return policies. You make things more expensive for the rest of us.

I've never used and returned anything before. It is kind of annoying/odd to see so many people on these forums buy so much tech with the intent of returning it.

I'm sitting at about day 80 and leaving on a vacation in a couple days which extends over my return period. With the additional rumor today of a September iPad 3 it sure is tempting to want to return it today and buy a new one "just in case" (that would place my new return window to the end of Sept). Then if an iPad 3 is announced in September I could return and buy, if not I'd just keep it. As tempting as it sounds, I don't think I could ever convince myself to buy-return-buy-return all the way till next year.

I know it still is wrong...(I probably won't do it) but why in the world does target have such a liberal return policy in the first place!! It's pretty ridiculous. If an iPad3 comes out in September it will be frustrating. haha

My target says they don't return used electronics, I could exchange only when I tried to take my iPad back.

The target store in southern california that i went to said i could not return if opened. I could exchange and if they dont have it in stock, i get a store gift card.

It doesnt say anything like that on my receipt...it says 90 days.

I wonder why there is a disparity.

Try returning to a different Target. You can return it to any as long as you have the receipt.

*sigh* looks like I'm going to have to return it after all. A family emergency has come up and I need to turn my iPad into plane tickets. It's in perfect condition, and I have all the packaging materials/receipt/bag. I just need to remove the jailbreak and re-set the iPad.

Actually, if I do a total factory reset on the iPad, do I need to remove the jailbreak at all? Can someone walk me through the reset process to return?

Idk why but I'm nervous that they'll be all suspicious of me for returning it.

Plug it into iTunes and hit restore. And don't let it sync after its restored.

Thanks. Packed it up and returned today, no questions asked. She just looked at the serial number on the iPad and compared it to the receipt. I will miss it, but that's okay. I guess I might be added to the list of people playing the waiting game for the next one .

used ipod from target--wtf

has this ever happened to anyone. yesterday i purchased an ipod touch for my husband. but when we opened it, the screen is cracked and it looks used!!
i am going to target to raise hell about it tomorrow...and demand a replacement. any comments on this?

I have a friend who works for Target and he told me that Target returns any of their returned items back to the mfg. This applies to all of their electronics. They're not like Walmart who have a habit of taking the word of the customer if there is a problem with the item.

Not only is the screen cracked, but it looks used too even?? You should certainly demand a replacement, this cannot be the first time it happens.

well, i don't think target would knowingly do this but something is wrong...it cannot be the same unit...serial numer does match...this is messed up and stinks! going to target in just a few min.

Well, if the serial number is not the same on the box as on the device itself (and therefore different then on the printed receipt) Good luck. They might just think you swapped out one you dropped and broke to get a new one.

Hope they replace it for you. If not you can always go to your credit card company.

Agreed, these retail stores are starting to clamp down on return abuses. I have NO reason not to believe the previous poster and it's a shame if she gets the short end of the stick.

Recently I tried to return a pair of work boots I paid for with cash back to Target because they broke. Like a numpty I threw away the receipt and they turned me down.

That's why I never ever without exception buy ANYTHING greater than $5 without putting it on a credit (not debit) card (assuming of course the buyer accepts them). Great protection for your purchases and lots of "points" for other stuff.

I'm sorry to hear that but that doesn't surprise me especially in this economy. I have a small business and you'd be surprised at the stuff people try and get over on me. Businesses as a whole are starting to get tougher on returns. Thankfully most of my customers are honest.

My feeling is if you make enough noise you will probably get it replaced. I would get a higher up managers name and email in corporate and explain your side and what you have done and are prepared to do because of this incident.
I hope you get a replacement. The next time don't ever leave the store without opening the box. And buying Apple products directly from Apple or sold directly by Amazon is always the best thing to do.

My best guess is an employee could have made the swap when no one was looking because as it's been stated all returns are visually inspected at the counter. Target employees have been known for hiding video games for themselves when there's a killer clearance sale going on.

I completely expected that. You would have had the same problem with Apple or Amazon. If the serial number INSIDE the box is not the same as ON the box and on the receipt it looks VERY fraudulent. BBB will do nothing for you. The only real chance you have is with Target management and corporate because even if you dispute it with your CC company Target can "dispute your dispute." The CC company will issue a temp credit but the merchant still has up to 6 months to fight it.

Your situation is tough, Think about it from the "other side's" perspective. It does sound/look kind of "strange" whether you are right or wrong.

Many credit card companies (AMEX for sure on most of their cards) have buyer protection for the first 90 days where if you drop it or it gets stolen you are covered. Maybe you should approach it from that direction. See if you can get it replaced under buyer protection as "dropped and broken."

Yeah, from now on I will open things like this up in front of them before leaving the store with it!! It just stinks because I purchased it as a gift- now I am out twice! I did email target corp. I guess a will have to buy a new one and be prepared to send this broken one off for repair or something!! Dang, I feel cheated!! Oh- well, life goes on!!
