Well, if the "hundreds if not thousands" of musical talents that appear on those Voice-Idol-Talent shows my SO watches are any indication, you're wrong to a great degree. Nobody asked Clarkson, Lambert, Hudson, Underwood or Sparks how much their parents were worth.

If her parents got her foot in the door, that means almost nothing for success. Talent rises, it's a brutal business, but you either have it or you don't. Most don't. She obviously does.
Talent doesn’t rise. That’s the just world fallacy at work. The music industry is an industry first and foremost. In succeeding in an industry, talent is tertiary. Do you really think One Direction was really any more talented, either as a group or through the sum of its parts, than The Wanted, 5 Seconds of Summer, or any of the other countless girl groups that wallowed in obscurity? Or did they merely have better managers, better marketing, better producers, better branding, or just some undefinable X factor unrelated to talent? The truth is, success and talent have very little correlation. Charlatans exist and prosper in every industry. Music is no exception.

The real reason is because it also happens to be the name of an Apple programming language

Those "obscure" bands wouldn't be if they had "it." No act that is just mediocre lasts 16 years (like Swift) and keeps building...Marketing only gets you so far. Swift didn't start at the top and neither did The Wanted. But creme always rises to the top.

Music is a matter of taste. You are essentially saying your tastes are the right ones and everyone else who doesn't agree is wrong and therefore deserves to be insulted.

I don't have a dog in this fight. Not a fan, but not a hater either. I do respect how she has taken care of the truck drivers on her tour, $100K bonuses to 50 of them. Also, I did see a video where she was very passionate with her parents discussing the 2020 election and she has also done a great job getting the younger population to register to vote.

Fair play to her. I admire those actions

But yet you can’t define “it,” can you? We’ve already established “it” isn’t talent. “It” is just an explanation of exclusion that people refer to when they’ve exhausted any other explanation for a thing or person’s popularity. But “it” isn’t anything really.

It doesn’t make any sense that someone can become popular without talent but that they can’t stay popular without it. Enduring appeal is just an extension of momentary appeal. Maroon 5 has stuck around far longer than anyone expected them to, but that doesn’t mean they’re good. It just means they’ve managed to linger around.

Actually.. I only know of one of her songs... wonderful remix by Imagine Dragons and I only know it's hers because they mention it at the beginning

With her Chiefs connection, she would have been a sure thing for the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show at least as a cameo, but she is on tour during it.
I can definitely see her wanting to take time off of a profitable tour to spend money to perform the half time show. That's exactly how she became a billionaire.

No one can define "it." You either have it or you don't. If you could, people would easily replicate it. "It" has been a thing since talking pictures. And Maroon 5 - again, your opinion, not fact. No need to insult them.

Well, this has (not) been fun. I'm out.

Time will tell. I will likely be around 20 years from now, so I will check to see how much her songs are played and sung at karaoke.

Exactly, the NFL and media already blowing her out of proportion in NFL games because of the Chiefs and Kelce connection and romance. Ugh! Oh and now the Britney Mahomes connection too....ugh!

Taylor Swift - the most overrated artist to ever exist. Still I got to applaud her for being such a big artist while having below average singing and dancing skills.
I think the iPhone is overrated (if even by a few hundred $'s). That doesn't mean I'm upset that so many people are into it. [shrug]

Tbqh Drake was the first person to deserve this honor. He basically was the draw on Apple Music since it started. Even now his latest album is back at #1. 😂

This is the most Macrumors comment ever. Good lord, my dude. I'm not at all interested in her music, but there's no denying that she's incredibly talented.

I liked when Apple used unknown songs on their commercials, and propped new artists up. This just seems like a “what’s a trendy now”, marketing gimmick. Nothing to do with Taylor, but yeah duh she’s had an amazing year. Music has become so one note, it’s frustrating.

How Sad,

Taylor Swift,.... Really?

Apple you need to make middle finger emoji and place it right here for all of the people making really good music .
