“Artist Friendly, Artist First” isn’t Jimmy’s philosophy because if it was, they would’ve never had to fight about these royalties to begin with. I’m a musician, and I’m usually “All Apple, All the Time” but let’s not all just forget that they originally tried to get away with this.

'... tried to get away with this."

With what exactly?
  • Investing enormous amounts of money into fostering music awareness and distribution?
  • Pushing the industry to a better place for everyone?
  • Creating many channels for consumers to discover music?
I fail to see what argument musicians have against the three month trial. Do they view it as Apple capitalizing and profiting from their music? Ah, hello... it's not like Apple replaced the iTunes [Music] Store. It's still up and running, available to sell any song that a consumer wants to buy. Isn't that what artists want... their music to sell? Apple is the biggest promotional engine that they have, and they whined and cried about three months? It's a load of kaka that artists would go out of business during that three months. What would those same artists have done during the same three months without the launch of Apple Music?

Thankfully, even after hours and hours of listening to Beats1, I have yet to hear a Taylor Swift song. :) That said, I have heard many segments repeated night after night, which I find disappointing.

My opinion is that the whole thing was a staged PR stunt. From the time she wrote the letter to apple making a u-turn, was all too fast, not to mention her album being available on apple music straight afterwards.

Are they not also SELLING your music when people want to buy it? Three months is peanuts in the grand scheme of what Apple has put together here for YOU.
If I take the music you've written and recorded and put it up on the internet for people to listen unlimited amounts of times for 3 months, in most places, we call that copyright infringement, not a favor.

Where's the proof that this was scripted? I'd like a link, please.

a link that proves it was an orchestrated PR stunt..... Yeah, that's not how these thinks work.... No company/individual would be dumb enough to leave evidence around.

It's a good old fashion conspiracy theory, cause everything fell into place just too confidently. Did you know you can now buy exclusive Taylor swift album on apple music??

And as with most conspiracy theories, there's nothing to it.

Maybe, maybe not. I don't really care, though in this case I think it was a publicity stunt for the service . Those Beats lads are cunning ;)

Everyone with half a brain knows Apple products are no longer worth the over inflated prices they charge. 5 years ago when they were out the front all on their own in just about every product category that mattered....yes, definitely. I happily paid. These days though? There is plenty of as good competiton that costs a lot less in basically every category.

There is no one other smartphone that does the same as the iPhone: running iOS.
Android is cute and useful, but it's not for me (I like features but also the Apple ecosystem). Keep in mind I'm using jailbroken iOS so it's not stock.

There is no laptop with the same sleek design, excellent battery life, and that works as well with my other iDevices as a Macbook (Pro, Air, what have you, but I'm going with the rMBP).
There is no tablet even close to the app experience the iPad offers. All others I've seen are blowing up Android apps to fit a bigger screen size.
There is no watch even close to the Apple Watch functionality or design. Whether I'd buy one is a different story.

So is there good and cheap competition? Yes.
But it's not on par with Apple's ecosystem as a whole...except for Android on smartphones. That's basically it.

As a Taylor Swift supporter, I see no problem with what she said, artist do deserve to be paid for their music, and if it made Apple change its policy, then good on her. I know I'm probably gonna get some hate on this, but haters gonna hate...and I'm not the least bit worried.

Taylor Swift if pure evil. If you fall for that super nice facade I feel badly for you. Her songs are oddly catchy though, but they fade fast...
I don't give a damn but why the hell do you think she's evil? I don't like her but only because I'm 52 and my music tastes are a lot different but I don't hate her. How can you possibly objectively say she is evil? If you're going to make such sweeping statements at least back them up with some details.

What I love about all this is how everyone is claiming Swift is a saint, but all she really is doing is pimping her music out to the service that pays her the most. When there is a threat to her monetary gain, she issues a Tweet or "open letter", and she secures millions of more profit, period.

"Taylor Swift Inc." couldn't care if indie artists gets paid during a trial period of Apple Music, "Taylor Swift Inc." wanted their rightful dues, period.

Of course, there is almost always monetary incentives behind these. But they should still be applauded because the end result benefits many. Just like Google's many goodwill projects, there are other motivations, but ends up being a good thing.

There's no proof but does anyone really believe this all just randomly happened? No way. Btw, right after Apple announced they would pay during the free trial Nikki Sixx from Mötley Crüe was on CNBC and said labels had been meeting with Apple for 10 days trying to get something worked out. There may not have been coordination between Apple and Taylor Swift but clearly Apple was moving towards paying and realized responding to Swift's letter would be a good PR opportunity.

That still doesn't mean it was pre-planned like many seem to believe. What you describe sounds much more likely than this all being a grand deceit by Apple and Swift.

"She made them aware it wasn't just the executives. Sometimes it's good to hear the artists saying it."

dam straight....

An Apple is just an Apple until it's eaten :apple:.

If you think Taylor Swift personally writes all her tweets, tumblr posts, etc... Then I've got some land in Florida to sell you...

yeah, contact me. Beautiful property - one unit left - it's called "Lake Chicamocomico"
