Ok. To format a drive is to wipe it clean, and prepare it for use by an operating system. The instructions I posted were to help you create a Mojave system installer. This is the basic operating system for your Mac. At this point, as long as you have a backup, you could just install Catalina through the App Store and see if that resolves your problem. It may, it may not. If not, you’ll probably have to reinstall your operating system (Mojave or Catalina) after formatting your drive. You could try Onyx or another piece of software like that, but that may or may not work. I suspect the problem is your icons cache.

I did run the Maintenance App (thanks for suggesting) and it says its all good.
The Icons are still off.
Now, the new problem is my external Hard drive is not showing in the finder Locations area.
I tried a new cord but it still doesn't show up.

Well, Disk Drill brought my HD back. I am thinking of getting the Pro, any advice here? I seem to lose external hard drives faster than most. Like 1 per year.
