hm. That disproves my theory, then. There must be something else Source doesn't like in the macbook :(

Hey, i know this thread hasn't had much action in the past month, but if any of you are still paying attention to it (and haven't figured out the answer) it's because of drivers.
The problem is that when apple updated bootcamp, they didn't do driver updates.

here's what to do.
go to this website:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2576&lang=eng

simply pick your os from the list, and download and install the driver.

if you aren't familiar with installing drivers --> the file downloaded from the website is a *.exe (self executable) so all you have to do is double click the downloaded file and it runs the installation.

I was having problems with cs:s, i couldn't get more than 5 fps in the stress test, even after going to dxlevel 70 and changing all the settings to low/off and lowest resolution. i did some looking around and i figured out the problem with the driver, installed the new one and i can run cs:s great. (30+ fps on dxlevel 80 and 1024x800)

Awesome.

If this works, you don't know how much I thank you.

The amount of problems I've had with garry's mod and other source games has been painful.

Thanks again. :)

Hey!

I'm having the same problem:

It says I have the wrong version of windows for the upgrade.

To make the games pretty much work, on steam, go to the game's properties, click on set launch options, and type in "-dxlevel 70".

This forces down the direct-x and makes the game not crash (depending on how new the game is - half life 2 ep 1 crashes every 5 minutes for me).

However, it lags a lot, and the graphics are nowhere near as good.

On CS:S I've learnt to cope with lag, and have found some levels which aren't as bad.

Don't know about TF2 though. Trying that soon.

We really need a complete solution though :(

here is a great solution, if you're willing to act fast.
codeweavers, the company that does crossover mac and crossover games (and other crossover programs) is offering TODAY, OCTOBER 28TH 2008 ONLY full versions of their software FREE
there are various articles of why they are doing this if you want to know why just google it.

the following link is for the website (the real website is down, so all you can do from this website is download your copy, of the software and enter your email address for a licence to be sent to you)

http://down.codeweavers.com/

to run games with steam, get crossover mac games, this software is like emulation in that it runs in mac os (no need for reboot) but it is different in that it does not suck for games. it uses a technology called wine instead of emulation. the only limitation is in the ammount of games and the software it can run, but it CAN run steam and your steam games.

Codeweavers Crossover Games

Codeweavers Crossover Games works fine.
Install is easy.
It always runs.
You can play Team Fortress 2 well
But it is not flawless.

Steam doen't work very good. (The community part)
On most servers Team Fortress 2 gives me graphic stutter (low fps).
Especialy on crowded and far away servers.
That's very anoying i think. Becouse it can be a real disadvantage in the game.

I run it on my Imac dual core 2,66 with 2 gig ram and a 20 mb connection. So that can't be the problem in my opinion.
I think i'm going to give Bootcamp a try soon.
If that doesn't do the trick i buy me a Bill Gates machine to play games.
