IPT eventually will be replaced by a version with phone capabilities.

You buy a prepaid-card from any provider and IPT is an iPhone when you need it.

I would buy that in a heartbeat. I love small phones. This Touch with phone capabilities would do great for me. When I travel I have my iPad for entertainment. A phone this small that allowed me to make calls, receive texts, read a book while waiting at the Dr. office, and maybe an occasional web search with a map would be great. I'm a 'small purse' woman. This would lighten my everyday 'carry load' a lot.

I don't care if it runs the latest and greatest OS. The size is what matters to me.

Sigh, I doubt it would happen but one can wish....

Nope, in their press release they said this and rest of the iPod Touch lineup would run iOS 8. (Presumably they only meant the current line-up though, not older models). Is that what you meant?

They said the iPhone 4 would run ios 7 and we know how that turned out not to mention the iPhone 3G and ios 4. Don't forget history

Such reactions are mainly confined to Android and Windows. Apple users typically may complain on forums, but they will go and upgrade to another Apple device. What do you think - anyone here will go get a Cowon?? And that's not even an apples to apples competitor to the iPod Touch.

I meant its the people with less money who save for this then find apple cripple it (a few months later) deliberately that feel cheated.

That's the only update you're going to get this year.

Why do you think that? This isn't an update. It's just a variant on the existing 5th generation model. Usually the prices for previous gen models come down before a new generation is released.

We've got a new model, which is the old model with less capacity, no smoke and mirrors.

"I think we need to take it apart and make sure they didn't change anything else"

That seems like effort well spent.

I hate to say this; but is this the new model for 2014 cycle? If it is; it a total sham! Totally sucks! A5, 512MB, etc.... 2 year old technology - outted as a new models! Total crazy!

iPod touch solution

Seeing as Apple has now taken on the superior form factor of the iPod touch, it would seem that the next gen touch could kill two birds with a single stone, by simply removing the phone electronics from the current 5c (or 5s) and making that the 6th gen ipod touch, so it has upgraded processor and zero design and retooling costs while still being below the new iPhone in specs.

Smaller iPad would make a great mobile gaming device to rival the PSP and DS, especially as games is the biggest growth area of the iTunes Store.

Are you still living in 2009? The PSP and DS have been replaced by the PS Vita and 3DS, respectively. And no, Vita and 3DS games are way better than iOS and Android games, there is no competition. That would be like comparing an Apple TV that had games access to an Xbox One, PS4 or even the Wii U.

Bought a secondhand 32Gb yesterday with only a minor scratch at the back - with Apple dropping prices, sellers drop prices. Cost me 140 dollars and the thing still has warranty.

I am not complaining.

I'm guessing they're waiting for the iPhone 6 + iOS 8 to reveal all the new gadgets that Apple is about to release. It wouldn't make sense for Apple to release a brand new product this year. It would look extremely outdated as it would lack the features that make the iPhone 6 stand out.

New iPod Touch in 2015 is my prediction

- Bigger screen
- iOS 8 preinstalled
- Touch ID
- iPhone 6-like design

Looks like Apple is not really too concerned about updating/refreshing the iPod Touch that much, and is instead focusing its development efforts on the iPhone and rumored iWatch.

is that a battery ?

Holy cow, look at the size of it... Reminds me of the old Nokia batteries.

Apple could have done that better. couldn't they?

Sure, they could have used a smaller battery then people would be complaining about how it doesn't last so long on a charge.

I give apple credit for not cutting corners on stuff like this.

Not for Apple products. They drop prices for previous gen models at the same time as the new release, so they can capitalize on higher margins OR they just drop the price to generate more sales for that product but use that as the "update" for that year. See iPod Touch 4th gen price drop.

A new iPod model this year is just wishful thinking... honestly I don't expect that they'll ever "update" the iPod Touch line as the sales are low, margins are low, the A5 chip does everything they need it to do (can run iOS7,8 possibly 9, play music, videos and games without crashing) as a foot in the door device.

By the time the A5 chip is no longer supported by Apple sales of iPod Touches will be even lower. At best IF they do update they'll just stick a modified A7 chip in it to meet minimum requirements (when iOS goes 64-bit only) of the iOS version at that time, my guess would be iOS9; most likely 10, but that'll be the final iPod Touch release unless they suddenly have a huge miraculous sales boost on the product line.

Anyway the ipod touch is for young people who have not the right to have a phone so it's not likely to disappear!

This is why... not worth the time effort and resources anymore for Apple.

I've got the new slimline Vita and it's not a patch on my iPhone. The price of games, the UI, the number of games available, ease of use, etc are all worse on the Vita. I only bought the Vita for the larger screen but now I wish I had saved my money.

The 3DS has been a complete flop from the outset. The crappy 3D screen gave me a headache.

I'm more than happy playing the occasional game on my iPhone. I wish the screen was bigger but that will get sorted later this year.

How do you know what games on the AppleTV will be like? Maybe Apple have held out until they can make a compelling experience. I was going to buy a PS4 until I looked at the price of the games. I'm sure it's worth it if you're a hardcore gamer but for the average person like me who only plays games to kill a few hours then I'm sure Apple will have a competitive solution.
