In any case, these middle lineup phones are not attractive to me at all. There are only two phones I'm considering this year: mini and max... best size vs. best camera. I'm heavily leaning toward the mini, but will wait to see how good the max's camera is first.

Exactly the same predicament. I'm really leaning towards a small lighter phone in my pocket for a change.

I have quite seriously considered an iPhone in the Max range to replace a Note 9 in a year or so. But if the iPhone cannot deliver enough battery for me to use this as a sometimes hotspot AND get reasonable phone time in a day, then I'll once again go for the better battery, modem integration, and reception on whichever, even though getting continued system upgrades for the Apple is far superior, considering the lives of iPhones with other family members.

I've also watched those iPhone users with battery packs, and I'm not ready to go back down that clunky, and frankly hideous, trail myself, especially when, by magic, the Apple Store says there is too much chance your iPhone 'will break' if they even try to replace the old battery [cough, cough].
You will not need one, 11 Pro and 12 battery life are great!

Nothing to do with the battery life and all, but this is the first video I've seen where the iPhone 12 blue looks like in Apple's stock pictures.

I think if Apple polled 100 people that 99 of them would prefer a very slight increase in thickness with a larger battery over being thinner with a smaller battery.

With that being said, hopefully we don't see any real world battery loss (when not using 5G).

This suggestion has been made for years. No reason why they can’t but rather they won’t.

Im of the belief that it’s more of a design aesthetic at this point. That a protruding element adds character to an otherwise bland slab of glass. Just my guess.

Battery life is a major reason that people upgrade phone's after 2-3 years, so they'll never change design to try to push battery life beyond their "standard" of 10 hours per day or w.e it is.

Someone needs to buy this guy some nail clippers... (yeah I know, it’s a cultural thing... but yeeech)

Instead of the 12 and 12 Pro and arbitrarily trying to find things to up sell one of them, they should offer a thin Phone and fatter Phone with more Battery.

(I'll take the thinner one)

It is a shame they are going backwards in terms of battery for "thin" again. I thought that would be gone once Ive was out. No reason to have such small batteries (especially when their devices aren't much thinner than android devices with much larger batteries.

The Kuo dude already said Apple tried to save a few bucks with a cheaper battery to offset the expense of 5g. Few believed it when the report was out. I also found it hard to believe a $1t company selling a premium even luxury product will nickel and dime it’s customers. But apparently they do.

It has nothing to do with weight, heat, or efficiency! Come on you can be efficient and have a bigger batt! If anyone think this is anything other than cost saving they’re delusional.

I know Apple are fanatics about making thinner phones and they have done an amazing job of fitting so much technology in a small space, but a tinny bit thicker (flush to the camera bump) to have more battery capacity would be worth it.
What if they just made the camera flush to the body...? 😁

Doesn't matter. Battery capacity should never be reduced.
Literally everywhere you look, with more efficient technology, battery capacity can be reduced while maintaining/increasing function. Look at anything from space capsules, electric cars to medical devices and really any electric device where form or weight is a factor.

As has been stated multiple times on this thread, battery capacity is just a number and is not always a great metric for battery life. A vehicle with 1000HP that weighs 2000Kg will be much slower than a vehicle with the same horsepower but weighs half the weight. Apple has confirmed the battery expectation numbers and they match the perfectly good iPhone 11 series.

Most people moaning about, well, just about everything these days needs to frame the fact that the world is in a huge mess right now from the environment to peoples health and battery capacity in an iPhone isn't really that important. Grow up!

Sometimes reducing size also permits a change of technology. For example, from a pair of AAA cells to a single CR2025 (or whatever). That can have a dramatic impact.

Though we also see some devices going from various silver cells to lithium buttons and receiving a large increase in power/life. After all, there is a physical size below which there are few, if any, advantages from reducing further.

Sure, I had Apple replace the battery on my daughter's 3 year old iPhone. The phone did break. They replaced the phone there and then with a brown-box one, no questions asked. No hassle, no cost.

I won’t care about battery life if it was like in Nokia Lumia 950 XL, I bought a spare battery and keep changing for charging and use it. I.e. User Replaceable batteries. You can design one without compromising IP68.

No it would make the phone too heavy.

I've been using my 12 pro for almost a day now. 5G enabled, about 30 apps downloaded over mobile data (no backup restore as my recent backup is on 14.2 beta). The battery life is merely bearable. Glad I didn't wait for the 12 mini...

However, the mega safe charger is so disappointing. It is so slow comparing to charging over the cable, only slightly faster than on a properly placed regular 7.5w qi charger. 15w is a very vague description. More like it's 15w power consumption and output is only half of that.
