I'm certainly not a fan boy (I have an iphone and a first gen ipad mini) but the criticism on 1080 display vs 4K is silly. The 4k/1080 is virtually indistinguishable on this sort of display. There was a story recently about the new Sony phones that came out. All the tech journalists walked into the show room to marvel at the supposed new 4k displays - oohing and ahhing when they were finally told that those weren't the 4ks they were looking for - they were 1080 screens.,

I hate when people say 1080P is a low resolution screen. If it's higher than 300PPI, then I am happy. I don't need 400+ PPI. I've had phones that have that, and they look nice, but not any sharper than a 1080P screen. If your eye can't see a difference, what's the point of having it?

Also, I am 100% against the "retina" moniker, but we can't get past that now.

Well the 6+ is actually 401 PPI.

Why would anyone care about the battery life? I want the phone to be as thin as possible even if it means I have to charge it multiple times a day and it will die when I need it the most.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I don't want to have to charge it multiple times per day. I want to charge it once. My iPhone 6 gets me through an average day reliably. However, I am no power user. On the occasion I need my phone more, I would rather not have to stop at a Starbucks to charge it when I'm in a city and need to rely on my phone to navigate, research on the fly, etc. I would rather not have to get a battery pack to make that happen as well.

Their sample photos are horrible. I certainly hope the camera is better than that.

horrible!!!!!!!!! let's exaggerate a bit more!
you say that only because of these puppy pics which are indeed sub par (and in low light).
many other sample pics looks pretty good imo.
be sure to check many new pic in the next days and you'll also see some great pics.

I love how they say it's a Low Res screen just because other manufacturers are having a pissing contest with screen resolution. You got 1080? I got qhd! lolz You got qhd? I got 4k lolzers

1080p is the perfect resolution for a phone this size until batteries make a huge leap forward. I don't want to sacrifice battery to get a screen that will appear minimally better to my eye.

You need to take it in context of the current market. For similar or lower prices, many smartphones now offer 2K displays. For the price you pay, a 1080p display is actually quite outdated.

Sure, Apple may have reasons such as battery life and performance, but you cannot deny that at the price premium Apple charges, you're hardly getting a premium display. It's good, but not great, relative to the current market of premium smartphones.

They lost me at low resolution screen. It might not be as high resolution as some android phones but do we really need it? Everything looks crisp and clear on the iPhone 6. It's a small device so doesn't need a ridiculously high resolution screen.

I've already seen good pics from 6S camera and thought the majority of the tech radar samples looked crappy. Maybe horrible is too harsh, but if all the review photos taken with 6S looked like their samples, I would be pretty disappointed. Thankfully, like I said, I've already seen better. Nothing's wowed me yet, though.

I'm a regular on XDA since I use a Nexus 6. There are lots of android users who have expressed they'd rather have a 1080 screen if they can save on battery life.

I take reviews with a grain of salt. I'm coming from an iPhone 4 with a cracked screen. I'm fairly certain I'll be in awe once I the the 6s.
The problem is so many of these reviews are based on comparing it to the previous years phone when in reality most people upgrading are coming from phones that are several generations behind. And this is the same tech press that complains about planned obsolescence...

Ask yourself this, if the battery life was improved on the 6s and really nothing else changed would you upgrade?

For me, not really as the prior iPhone got me through the day. And maybe not everything has changed but enough has to influence me upgrading regardless. Heck, some folks are getting it just because there is a new color.

I'm interested in the 6s because of the A9 processor and doubling the RAM to 2GB. I've had my 4S for almost four years and expect to get that long out of my next iPhone, and the 2GB RAM ought to enable me to do that.

"Live pictures" is more of a gimmick to me. 3D Touch is interesting and may be a plus. Higher resolution display would have been nice, but not at the expense of battery life. Actually, I would have been fine with a little thicker phone and increased batter life, but I suspect that the 6s will suffice.

Not only battery life, the screen takes a lot more processing power which I would rather be used elsewhere.

Not to mention app support. They must look more than a little blurry being upscaled to such a high resolution.

To be fair Samsung Galaxy devices support VR and QHD is still pixelated so 4k is the next logical step once SoC performance and battery catch up. Without VR 1080p should be bare minimum.

The thing about the screen is asinine. You don't need a 4K display in a phone as you can't distinguish the individual pixels without a magnifying glass or maybe even a low-powered microscope. I've never met a single person who could tell the difference in pixel density between an iPhone and the competition. Normal people usually look at me like I'm weird when I talk about PPI or jagged screen edges. They just look at them and say "Yeah, that's nice." Heck, many people I know who upgraded from non-retina iPads didn't even notice when they went retina!

I'm a pixel-perfect designer and pixel-peeping photographer with good nearsightedness and even I have trouble distinguishing between the 6 and 6 Plus PPI. Nobody in the real world, outside of the tech community cares. Will Apple at some point make all of their devices @3X? Probably. Like I said, it's slightly noticeable up close. Especially on serifs for text. But I see absolutely no point in going beyond that for a device of this size as @3X is already overkill. We've essentially reached the resolution end point. Now I'll admit that TVs and monitors have a ways to go because they're a lot bigger and their PPI is a lot smaller. But from typical viewing distances they aren't bad and you really need a pretty big TV or monitor to take advantage of 4K and higher. I also think there is some room to improve on the iPad but not much as it's held further away. I think improving the iPad would be more apparent than improving the iPhone. From here on out I expect most display improvements will be in increasing contrast, accurate color reproduction, reducing glare, improving viewing angles and making them easier to read outdoors in direct sunlight. It will be less about resolution for smaller devices.

If you get through a day on the 6, you will get through a day on the 6s.

Ok, Let's talk about Apple then since we are at Macrumors:

"Some people say, 'Give the customers what they want.' But that’s not my approach. Our job is to figure out what they’re going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, 'If I’d asked customers what they wanted, they would have told me, "A faster horse!"' People don’t know what they want until you show it to them. That’s why I never rely on market research. Our task is to read things that are not yet on the page."

-Steve Jobs

Hm. Been playing with our store's demo 6s and 6s Plus and I'm very impressed. Screen looks magnificent in my eyes. Responsiveness is incredible. Haven't seen an issue yet with Live Photos.
