I hope they can pull off a good season two. If you watch the original football/soccer advertisements that were on NBC you'll notice that A LOT of the material is from those. However, they did a pretty good job with all of the other characters in the show. I like that you can binge it in an evening after work. :)

While Ted Lasso is richly deserved, Golden Globes is a joke of an award. Nominations are done by a closed committee of about 90 Hollywood gossip reporters. They often nominate total duds or films that haven't even been released and thus seen by their members, such as this year's Music, a critically panned movie by Sia.

I did try to watch the show, and it's probably a really great show but I got bored watching it. However, I have not watched commercial television for over forty years. In retirement, I'm trying "new" things, unfortunately commercial television is not for me.

I entered here just to comment that Apple probably bought the nomination (usual practice for Golden Globes), but the rest of the comments seems quite positive. I should give it a try.
Now I'm curious: any source links about GG nominations being bought? I'd love to go down that rabbit hole, but could only find a few references to a 1982 win being potentially bought (1982, Pia Zadora for "New Star of the Year", old category).

Must give it a look - from a UK perspective (which is a big part of why I haven’t watched it so far). As far as the other programmes are concerned, I haven’t seen Schitt’s Creek (don’t actually know if I can get it here), but we’re loving The Great. Total nonsense from a historical perspective, of course, but great fun!

I mean I like this show, but a comedy award? It's really more heartfelt tongue in cheek humor than anything else, not laugh-out-loud funny. So I have a hard time understanding how people really think this show is funny enough to win an award for how funny it is. Or am I missing something?
Agree in principle - same for The Flight Attendant, which is, at best, a dark comedy that's really a drama/thriller show.

Either way, Ted Lasso is a really well written, surprisingly emotional show.

Well the foreign press liking a show about soccer isn't that surprising, but yeah, this is a fantastic show and i will be SHOCKED if it doesn't also get an Emmy nomination, and even mild surprised if it doesn't win.

Agreed on the Flight Attendant, but Ted Lasso is absolutely a comedy first. I mean, look at the mustache! That's the first sign.

It was the show 2020/2021 needed - so much fun, great characters and great heart. It is a must see if you have Apple TV+. Also, I agree with the nod for Sudeikis. Initially his character seemed 1-D, but there is some true depth and great acting in future episodes.

Loved this and Schitt's Creek. Not sure which I would want to win more though 🤗
Both shows are just brilliant and so deserving, but Schitt’s Creek absolutely cleaned up at the 2020 Emmy’s so I’m cool with Ted Lasso winning. It’ll be eligible for the 2021 Emmy’s and I hope it gets nominated there, as the Emmy’s have more credibility.

Not bad but not at all my favorite. So far I liked The Morning Show, For All Mankind, Defending Jacob, and Mythic Quest. For comedy I liked Mythic Quest much more than Ted Lasso. Both seem to be fairly equal for production, writing, and acting. I liked the game dev story line better however.

Finally found a non-doc Apple TV show I like....scratch that...love. We're watching the final two episodes tonight, and are looking forward to season 2. Put the pedal to the metal, Apple, and get it out the door!

RICHLY deserved. This is one of the best shows (and the best comedy) on Apple TV+, and IMO, the best comedy on any platform for the 2020 year.

Oh, I expect even more than 2 nominations in this year's Emmy awards for Ted Lasso. Waddingham was robbed of a nomination. Should be 3 emmy noms and hopefully 3 emmy wins this year.

Being a Brit who lives in the US I could get the Football v American Football play off in this show. Love the main character (Jason Sudeikis) but sad that some of the supporting cast seem to get no promotion, especially here in the US. In the UK Sudeikis is not know, but a lot of the other cast are well known. I understand that this is primarily a US orientated show, paid for with US money, so the US character should get top billing, but it is the whole cast who make this show work. Grumpy Brits v the ever positive main character from the US. A great show and loved every minute of it.

My Apple TV+ free trial got extended to July so I decided to watch this. Absolutely no regrets, this show is fantastic. Will definitely start paying for Apple TV+ once S2 (and S3?) come out.
