Any other Brits watched it? The trailer makes it look like it's a string of tired US clichés about the UK with a laugh track, but would be interested to know if it avoids that.

Another Brit here who loved it (watched it twice; once on my own out of curiosity, second time with my family after I raved about it).

No laughter track, very few tired cultural cliches on either side. Can’t abide football and the hoohah around it, so can’t speak for the depiction in the show. Loved it and found it heartwarming and funny (as a Brit who loves coffee and can’t abide tea, I’m with Ted...)

Grew to love all of the characters, even those initially written as grating. And it has Tony Head in it. And no laughter track.

Try the first couple of episodes.

Hi - I live in London and grew up with friends in Richmond, so know the area it's set well.
This was our favourite TV series of last year - neither I nor my wife are big football supporters, but you don't need to be to enjoy this. The positivity of the characters provided a ray of light in what was an otherwise pretty bad year.
Highly recommend it - and Tehran is excellent too.

i turned the first episode off within 15 minutes because i saw nothing new comedy-wise and the plot was rehashed to many times. the premise was stupid and the dialog was annoying to follow.
but that is just me, I'm more a Benny Hill, Monty Python or even the Goodies fan were jokes and creative matter along with physical comedy. and will be hated for typing this here

I have mentioned in other threads that there isn’t much in Apple TV that I like but I acknowledge that this is more of a reflection on me than on the shows themselves. Name a series from the last 20 years and odds are that I didn’t care for it. Comedy, drama, police, doctor or detective shows. Friends, Community, Seinfeld, the Office, the Big Bang snd whatever the names of the police/hospital//private eye shows have been I haven’t watched, or more accurately I tried to watch but turned off. It’s why I don’t complain about tv shows, I recognize that I don’t like them even when lots of other people do. Which means that I am the oddball, not most of the general public.

Lasso is not very relevant to U.K. football or their fans so more indifference here. However to find what a funny and sadly very dated English take on football managership is like watch this classic. Unfortunately the accents, slang and references will be pretty alien to most. But it still stands up as a daft but self deprecating comedy movie about the sport

No, they don't avoid it. Stereotypes all over the place, one dimensional superficial characters, a razor thin, predictable storyline, somewhat childish humour, and a lovable, naive Jason as the lead star. That's all you need to make this is a hit!

I'm not too sure what you mean by tired US clichés. It came over as a great British comedy drama with high production values than most. We don't do laughter tracks in the UK, so I don't recognise that.
I just meant lots of gags about tea, weather, warm beer & misunderstandings about 'football' v 'soccer'. Seems from comments on here it might have a bit more to it, will check it out!

Give it a full episode or two. Comedies are the hardest shows to get a feel for. The humor usually doesn't land until 2-3 episodes in because they rely heavily on character development.

To anyone else, I would take a 15 minute review with a grain a salt.

I also really don’t get the success of this show, the jokes are goofy to say the least. I’ve been watching The Crew which is a zillion times funnier and more enjoyable but that’s just me, to each his/her own of course.

If that is what you think Ted Lasso is about you are definitely off base. Yes, some of those things occur. But they aren't the primary drivers of this show. The characters, their flaws, their motivations and their redemptions are. This show is so much more than silly fish out of water gags. And it's so much more than just watching the first episode (or even first couple episodes... I'd say you have to watch the first 3) and judging it based on that. It's a show that develops more over time. As do the characters and plot lines.

Ultimately it's a show that makes you feel good. Because the main character is all about trying to bring out the best in those around him. His goofy facade is just that, a facade. A way for him to motivate as well as mask his own issues. You learn that more as you watch the show and the character development unfolds.

we started watching this yesterday, and have enjoyed far more than I was expecting. Really nice writing and so refreshing to see a show where everyone isn't a bastard for once.

I hate football but to my surprise loved it and watched all the way through.

FYI some of the producers, directors and senior writers are British and aside from the big production budget and American lead its not that different to a something you'd find on C4 or E4.

It's an incredible mix of UK and US humour. Mostly of the fish out of water poking fun of the US kind.

I'm rewatching it now, and it is even better than I remembered.
