I don't think it is corny. Outside of a little bit of swearing, I think it is a fairly wholesome show by today's tv standards. I like that aspect.

I'd say that S1 can be considered a comedy. The more we move forward, the darker it becomes, especially after the end of S2.

it isn't that funny. it's mostly corny + some tender moments. i think nathan might have some funny lines but he is hard to understand. i'd say it's a pleasant watch.

After being in a similar situation - see my comment above - I think you gave up too soon. The show becomes quite powerful in my opinion.

Got to give it 3 episodes - somewhere in those 3 it hits its groove and then takes off into the stratosphere.
