The CEO doesn't know who is and isn't doing this stuff. Impossible to hold them accountable for what people do with their phones. This is just a ploy to grab peoples personal communications. There are plenty of ways to successfully go after predators that doesn't involve inserting back doors into phones and apps. Should gun manufacturers be held accountable for what people doing with their guns? Should car manufacturers be held accountable for people driving over 100 mph? You could always blame the creator for misusing your work for purposes you didn't intend.
You miss the point, the point is to collaborate with law enforcement requests like in any civilised country.
If Police finds out of PEDO Activities and ask the service access to conversations and even the IP Addresses of who wrote what then they need to provide that.

The right to be a criminal ?
So you think a govt has the right to review and censor everything said or written because it might prevent some criminality?

We all have the “right” to choose to do bad or good things. Scary is the world where we need big brother watching and monitoring every act, word, and thought with “crime prevention” as the justification for tyranny.

Scarier still when we arrest one for the actions of another.

Sad how many humans will welcome oppressors with open arms provided they promise security or prosperity.

I’ll take the risks that come with freedom

You, dear torquer, can take whatever risk takes your fancy, where and when it affects you personally and without prejudicing others. The primary and lawful role of government of any country is to protect their citizens. The recent idea there are no limits to free speech without consequences is delusional. Way back in history, before the birth of the USA, early pioneers of free speech, such as J.S.Mill placed stringent caveats on free speech. His model allows for: 'complete freedom both from legal and social constraints when a person's conduct affects no-one other than him or herself.'

On the flip side there are also serious consequences for limiting the free speech.

The concept "put it where everyone can see it and nobody will be able to see it" exists for a reason.

These statements consistently astound me. I observe their increasing frequency, yet I fail to discern any individuals who genuinely believe these assertions taking action to protect those who are actually being targeted by fascist governments. In the United Kingdom, journalists who report on Israel’s genocide are being incarcerated, yet there is no outcry from the free speech advocates.

Furthermore, it is perplexing that the same individuals who advocate for stricter government control often express concern about crime. This inconsistency raises questions about their true priorities.

Additionally, if you support a government that seeks to exert complete control over individuals’ lives, how can you possibly oppose tyranny?

Israel as a project is due for an expiry and is clearly on its way out. For all you know this serves UK interests(which are not necessary self-evident) very well.

The arrest of Richard Medhurst was heavily criticised (outcry?). However, if you insist on deploying theatrical hyperbole by inferring the United Kingdom government of being fascist, well, your potential activists are going to roll their eyes, look at the weather and finish their breakfast while finding the UK - Syrian journalist was released a few hours after being detained. By this time your cause for protest is downgraded to possible abuse of anti-terrorism laws by someone. Exaggerating and becoming over excited results in completely missing the target and the responsible authority is forgotten. But that's knee-jerk social media for you: free speech turned to drivel.

I’m talking about Sarah Wilkinson, if you don’t know about something it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Lots of people over there seem to agree with what I said, we’re always told we are “overreacting”, yet time and time again we’ve been proven right.

She is under house arrest. Dig deep enough and you understand why this might be the case. There are several moderate pro-Palestine groups, protesting perfectly lawfully, who have distanced themselves from her. So, on the surface, shock and horror and feeling sick this 'injustice' is taking place in UK (my first thoughts). but keep looking and initial sympathies turn to moderate contempt for an anti-holocaust denier who went further. Counter Terrorism in the Uk is a full-time job and I doubt they waste their time for no good reason. Dig deeper, look further. Meanwhile, the Telegram CEO is perhaps less contemptible for being stubbornly uncooperative.

Ah yes falling back to the binary argument of “crying fire in a crowded theater” to justify unreasonable censorship, monitoring, and incarceration.

Asinine posts online hardly fall into that category nor do I feel the need to have a corporation or govt stand watch to ensure I’m not offended by something someone says.

Believing that policing every comms medium under the guise of security is a good thing is scary AF.

Name an entity you trust with that level of power and not to abuse it.

“I promise to return this authority when the emergency has passed”

Anyone know if the Patriot Act is still being renewed now? How long has it been since 9/11?

Government: You can trust us.

I assume you quoted me by accident as I actually agree with you.

I’m not about to take up arms in another country for their oppressive actions but I certainly don’t support them

Anyone still unsure about responsibility of social media bosses can take a look at Le Monde: https://www.lemonde.fr/en/pixels/ar..._titre_1&M_BT=163731458906306&random=87134139 Le Monde catalogues just how Telegram enables criminals, terrorists and paedophiles to quickly and easily carry out their business. Probably unintentionally, Pavel Durov has created a safe market place for criminals to thrive and, crucially, made it more difficult for Counter Terrorism and crime agencies to keep innocent citizens safe. If you simply shrug after reading this Le Monde article, or you don’t even glance at it, then god help your families and loved ones. Governments everywhere get bad press but they can’t roll over and let anarchy thrive - at least not in France, EU and wider Europe.

I agree with you but referencing articles that are held behind a pay wall does NOT help to reinforce your opinion.

Facebook has a free pass it seems. Because guess what….. 🤡🤡

Not only that, but Facebook *knew* it was facilitating human trafficking, and let it continue for YEARS.

Telegram is simply saying "we are a neutral communications app that doesn't monitor speech." Totally different thing.
