i have a 32gb ipad 2. i will get a 16gb ipad 3. for me, the extra storage isn't worth it. for others, it might be. it depends on: how you use it, whether you are disciplined about data management, how much you want to spend, etc.

I have a 32g ipad 1 3g and its half full. im glad i got the 32 because apps range so much in size. I downloaded alot of games and some of them are like 700mb a piece. it goes fast. i have hardly any movies on my ipad just games and apps and its still half full.

I may go for the 64 gig next time.

Now you guys have me thinking maybe I need a 64 LOL! I'm so confused. You know if I get one now, Ipad 3 will be released in January. That's just the way my luck is, lol!!!

Also for the tethering.........I have the original $25 unlimited data on my Iphone with AT&T. I don't want to try the tethering because I think if you do that, they take away your unlimited. I like not having to worry how much data I use on my phone.

32gig

I have the 32 gig model.

I use the iPad when I go on holiday. I have movies, books and music for the flights, manuals for my photo gear but the main reason is that I can archive my photos. I shoot RAW and often have in excess of 16 gig of pics from my trips.

Every evening I use the camera connecter to transfer my pics from my cameras to my iPad. Then when I get home, I transfer them back to my desktop. I used to carry a laptop but the iPad is so much more convenient.

I have a 32 GB iPad 1, and I'll either stick with the 32 with the iPad 3, or upgrade to a 64. 32 seems to be right about the perfect space for my uses, which include about five or six movies, a few thousand songs, about 50 or so apps, and some school notes, papers, and PDF files that I either view in iBooks or edit using iAnnotate. It's quite literally replaced the crappy laptop PC that I used to take to college lecture. I don't even use an external keyboard, but I would recommend one to anyone who is not comfortable with just a touchscreen keyboard.

One thing though that I dislike about Pages for iOS(not to completely derail or anything) is that I can no longer insert a tab. :(

It's really up to you (just as it is with anyone else considering which one to buy) to figure out based on your anticipated usage, preference, budget etc. I went with 64GB as there's no way to upgrade and I didn't want to limit my storage space. Further, resale value should theoretically be better for one with more capacity. Good luck with the choice. Stop worrying and select one and enjoy it. You have a return period if you quickly figure out that you bought the wrong one. Past that period you can always sell if you feel that you have to upgrade.

I have a 32G Iphone and have never hada problem with space. I'm hoping to get an Ipad for Christmas, but I'm confused on the size. I really don't want to spend the extra money as I want to get he 3G too.

Tell my why I would need the 32G over 16G

Thanks!

Between the 16,32, 64 models, there is no difference outside of storage capacity. Talking about the same screen specs, battery, cpu, and so one. Screen could vary slightly because it could be made by different vendors, but they are meant to meet the same specs Apple requires of them.

So it comes down to storage. How much storage do you need? Or shall you ask yourself, how frequent you plan to upgrade your ipad and how long you plan on keeping the current one? --> for example, if you don't anywhere near 16GB now and don't see it by the next release of iPad --which you plan to upgrade too in an annual basis, there's no need to get the larger capacity now. If you ever get close to the max. capacity; then you know to get the one larger next upgrade.

On the other hand, if you plan on keeping the ipad for several years before upgrading, then you should think about future-proofing your capacity needs. I would estimate the number of years you plan on using it before upgrading; then look at your capacity usage else where over the last year or so and see the rate at which it grows. Get an estimate month-to-month or year-to-year and compound it over your estimated years and see which capacity is enough.

Lastly, if you plan on using the ipad to watch movies on the go while traveling for long periods of time... then ask yourself what is the maximum length of travel where you would not be able to sync your ipad to your laptop; and how much videos do you plan to watch in that period of time. Subtract the time where you would not be able to use the equipment (in-flight after the door is shut until you are in midair...) and multiply it by the average movie size being around 300MB per hour video. The 64GB would probably get you 120 hours worth of video capacity before you need to sync and update your next 120 hrs worth of videos. -- Possibly useful if you plan to travel with a ton of video and don't plan to bring along a laptop. You'll still be limited to the battery-usage life of the ipad (about 8-10 hours per full charge).

I found most apps, email, (everything else) not taking that much space. Its multimedia that will eat your space, and this would be the factor if you like to carry a lot of these with you.

the longest time away from a computer I've been was to my honeymoon for 2 weeks. I sync all my unwatch tv-shows and movies to my 64GB ipad2. I barely watch 1/3 of it, but it was nice to have access to it. In normal daily life, I only use half of 64GB, syncing only the last 10 oldest unwatch shows.
