I've used a couple of iPhones extensively that immediate family members have. I myself have a Palm Treo650 for business use and although the iPhone is nice, it can't replace my Treo650. Why - 4 big reasons?

1. The iPhone doesn't have an extensive memo system like Palm. I have hundreds of technical instructions and part numbers organized into dozens of categories.

2. The iPhone personal information manager doesn't break up contacts into various categories such as business, personal, private and other user designated categories.

3. No 3rd party applications available yet that are tailored for my business.

4. The Calculator! What was Apple thinking? No scientific, logic or business calculator. This is very handy if you use this sort of thing in your business. My Treo650 has this.

One of the first things I did with my Treo650 is take a pic of my business contacts, friends and family and assign their phone number with significant date such as birthday or particular anniversary. When they call me, I can see their pic and know who it is right away and when the significant date rolls around each year, I get an alarm and send them a congratulatory message.

I don't see the iPhone in current form replacing Palm smart phones. As much as I like to get one, it won't do what I need.

...etc

These are all excellent and true points. However, I have to say I agree with most of the posters and to answer the OP, the iPhone is the best phone I've had. In years past I had a Sony/Ericsson P800, then most recently a Nokia N80. Both were nice smart phones but the iPhone is way better. Apart from everything just working nicer, the Internet and everything about it is way easier. WiFi works beautifully, finding LOTS of hotspots and connecting to them with ease. I cannot afford to do EDGE here in Canada, so I am restricted to WiFi for Internet, but my home and my workplace have it, and between home and work there are lots of other places, so I find the Internet part of the phone lovely.

I guess a huge reason I like the iPhone is because I'm a mac user. There is no other phone that syncs with a mac as nicely as the iPhone. This includes photos and mail. I use IMAP mail, and things I do on my phone are beautifully synced with mail on my Mac. Never had this before. The text input on the iPhone is better than both the N80 which was T9 and the P800 which was stylus based. I find I'm getting faster as the weeks go by.

I do miss a few things. e.g. no camcorder ability. However, I'm expecting these in version 2 or 3 of the iPhone.

I agree, This is the first phone I've had where the other features are more important to me than the phone. I use it 75% of the time as a organizer/iPod.
Much more efficient than anything, or any two things I have ever owned.

being able to "flick" through contacts and playlists is tech beyond any phone on the market.

That's not tech, it's glitz. Many other phones can do it. It's dirt simple to program, and the technique has been around for years, but not used.

Example scrolling on WM

In the above example they use a stylus. That's not because it needs it, but because it's easier to make a movie if a finger's not in the way. (That's why Apple uses a tiny round spot as a "finger" in their demos.)
