ding, ding, ding, my thoughts exactly. We have a winner!

Oh, that was in this thread too... My brain is fuzzed with all these rumors!

So do you all think the iMac release (whenever it is) will be a showcase event? If it is just released on a Tuesday thats hardly gonna be showcase? Or am I wrong? Just thinking about past apple announcements i.e. "It's showtime!"

It's a wee bit early for new iMac release speculation. iPhone is next on the agenda, and hence all the recent updates.

Yeah. iPhone is set to take centre stage. Personally I think it will have centre stage for a lot longer than just 3 weeks given the build up this product has had. I'm of the opinion now that the new iMac updates will most likely wait until October now. That's a bit late for me.

So when are you thinking the new iMac will be released?

Also, living in the UK, we can't have anything to do with the iPhone for a while yet!

in that sense, yeh it may be considered a bit early.

but in the sense that its been nearly 10 friekin months since the imacs were last updated, it sure as hell isnt early!!!

Well, my 20" C2D iMac with 2GB RAM and 256MB ATI card is here... I'm in 2 minds as to open it now and set it up or return it to Apple and await the new iMac whenever that will be...

Decisions decisions... HELP!!!

 :apple:

Well the majority of the signs of a new release are karma based.

Sweat, worry, and wait weeks or months from a new machine to be released.

Then you finally break down and buy one of the current stock machines because you cannot wait any more.

If your karma is bad, the new machines will be announced while you are taking it out of the box. ;)

Moment of clarity...

Well, I've had a moment of clarity and phoned Apple to come collect my iMac. I'm gutted to see the unopened box go but it was for the best.

Now I'm waiting for Apple to get their finger out and give us NEW iMacs!!!

i'll tell you what isn't a tell-tale sign: low refurb stock. there were too many threads and posts about the low availability of the macbook/macbook pro models and how it correlated to an impending release.

I agree. I'm pretty new-ish here but if anything, surely a higher refurb stock would be more of an indicator...??? From the experience of checking the refurb store, the stock levels vary widely from day to day anyway so I think you're right that we shouldn't read too much into that.

What I'm thinking now though is:

  • Will Apple release the iMac alongside the iPhone?
  • Will this help or hinder sales?

I see new iMacs w/ Leopard in cross-promotion, after people settle back in after summer. Clear out inventory w/ back to school promotion, turn 17" into emac, grab bigger desktop market share w/ new uber iMac which takes full advantage of Leopard.

I just bought a new iMac after no announcement at WWDC. My thought process is that nothing will be announced until after the "Major in Mac" program. I just do not see them adding another SKU to confuse the promotion. The poster talking about he/she would rather buy toilet paper is just being dramatic.

Bottom line is that you still get the same nice machine you based your puchase decision on originally. Its not like an update will render your machine useless. It will still work for many years, it will still retain resell value and it will still run leopard.

IMO, the update will be a form factor update and probably Santa Rosa, which is only good for an increase in RAM recognition (which isn't a big deal for my consumer needs...3gig is plenty) and increase in FSB speeds (not a big deal in terms of speed). They will probably update the video card, but I don't do anything now that even closely utilizes the power of the x1600 256mb, and even if they did, Apple tends to underwhelm in consumer video card offerings. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the 20" base models expected to replace the 17" had integrated graphics.

The thing that will have me kicking myself will be a price drop. If they bump specs, make the 20" the base model AND reduce the price, then I will come back to this post edit in how wrong I was and how much I wish I should have waited. However at the end of the day, I will go home to my 20" iMac w/chin and forget about whatever update and/or price drop occurred that day. That's how awesome I think the current iMac is right now.
