Because any software release go through a lot of process. A random date or time doesn’t work. As soon as it completes their normal process they will release it.
Unless someone purposefully sends the obscure character, you won't be affected. It will probably be another week or two before fix release.
Because bug fixes need internal testing and Apple won't send a single x.x.1 update for one tiny thing unless it's critical.
The problem is any app that uses or displays that character is impacted. I assume people on snap are maliciously sending it to other snap users to crash the app.
While that can be an issue, a good semi-solution would be to limit your use of the snap app.
Again pretty much any iOS and macOS app that attempts to display the symbol will crash. You can bet that this is a problem on just about any messing or social app.
FYI Snap has quickly become a very important app for high school and collage students as most have abandoned facebook and rely on snap for communications. Simply not using it really isn't an option for many users... not without significant impacting their daily lives.
