People are still buying the AirPods Max???
I see them everywhere in Australia. Second to the Sony XM4, which I have. But for me, it’s the connectivity (the Apple ecosystem) that is attractive. The XM4’s are annoying Versus my Powerbeats pros.

Could some sort of Wi-Fi Direct allow the bandwidth to stream lossless on the gen 2? I’m not really clued up on this sort of thing but I know Bluetooth isn’t suitable.

If they added lossless it would be a big differentiator from the competitors on the market.

XM4s take a good half a minute to connect to my Macbook compared to almost instant Airpods and a couple of seconds for Bose QC35. Couple that with BT incompatibility on Samsung TVs, not being able to permanently turn off Speak-to-chat, finicky touch controls and muffled default sound profile (you almost have to use equliaizer) it's the most overrated pair of headphones I've ever owned. Both Airpods and Bose are so much better it's not even close. The only big con for Airpods Max I'd say is that stupid case.

This article misses the boat on speculation.

The AirPods Pro Max 2 will feature a WiFi connection for lossless audio via AirPlay 3 and WiFi 6 with a much larger battery. Since iPhones only have 1 WiFi radio, the AirPods Max will connect to WiFi on a home or office network, not to handheld devices. Bluetooth audio will remain an option. It will also have an entirely enclosed slip case for storage which contains a larger battery for recharging and an external MagSafe connector identical to the one on the MacBook Pro. A USB-C to MagSafe cable will be included which matches the color of the earcups. A 3.5mm audio jack will allow users to bypass the internal digital audio processor and radios for pure analog sound from an analog cable. The colored earcups will be magnetic and removable and available to purchase separately in a plethora of new colors.

The market doesn’t need a £599 pair of headphones when inflation is rampant and the cost of gas surging. Apple should price these at £299

We can argue about £599 being too much, but £299 is clearly too low when compared against what Sony and Bose offer at (above) that price point. Apple's is clearly a significantly more premium product.

Otherwise, that's a bit like suggesting the latest iPhone 14 Pro should be priced below the latest Samsung Galaxy.

Airpod max should allow direct wifi or something so at least at home it can play lossless.

Needs a new case.

Needs USB-C (so that, if anything, more bandwidth for lossless)

Weight reduction would be nice as well.

Weird. My XM4s don't take long to connect at all. Less than 5 seconds.

Yes. In defence of the XM4s, the case and folding system are excellent, and that's important to me when I travel. My flatmate also spent some time comparing the XM4s to the QC35 and she decided on the XM4s based on better comfort, even though the QC35 were a bit cheaper at the time.

I'm seeing them more and more recently in the UK too. Although for me, headphones are something I use at home and when travelling - not usually when out and about.

The next Max has to do lossless.

The top part could be more comfortable. The mesh can have too much give and the frame touches the head.

Apple made the same mistake with the max as it did with the original HomePod - the market didn’t need a high end speaker. It needed an iOT presence in every room. It got that wrong and also these. The market doesn’t need a £599 pair of headphones when inflation is rampant and the cost of gas surging. Apple should price these at £299 - they’d sell a mountain and drive brand recognition just like beats did 10 years ago. Price is ridiculous for what they offer.
So basically release AirPods Max mini. apple is not reducing the price of headphones by 50%.

Also product decisions are made a few years in advance. The economy turned seemingly on a dime and now apple has to follow through. However if apple made a mistake it’s in the company of a handful of companies that this type of decision is not going to cause financial issues.

Because both times I’ve bought a pair of AirPods Max from an Apple Store (I returned them the first time with noise cancellation issues) they’ve come out of the box with a completely flat battery. I’ve not had that with any other Apple product, and it suggests to me that they’ve been sat in the stock room for a significant amount of time. People aren’t buying them.

It's true about the HomePod, but they already do have a full range of AirPods covering the entire price range and offering plenty of brand presence. And they still own Beats, so why compete with that? And unlike the HomePod, these seem to be doing well.

I don't see any advantage for Apple to sell cheaper ones, even if there is obviously demand.

Yeah that guy completely forgot about AirPods and AirPods Pro to make Apple seem like they failed in portable audio.

Which makes me wonder, how many Airpods/Beats are out in the wild Vs. iPhones?

Apple is the innovator of charged devices out the box. You may be right but it is a premium product. I'm not sure Apple expected them to sell like AirPods.

Important features not mentioned:

1. Lossless.

2. Studio quality so narrators, producers, engineers, audiophiles, movie and music studios can ditch ugly headphone models.

3. AirPlay standard. Sorry but Bluetooth is the new Intel and moving slower than Apple. So Apple needs to start putting AirPlay first and pushing it like it did iPod or iPhone.
Maybe video and print ads that have the added text "with AirPlay".
(Yes, I know Apple products already support AirPlay but this should be a customer awareness campaign.

If Apple can price them at $399 they could become the new high-end audio standard and take down the big guys like Watch did with Rolex. Again, we have to be realistic. People seem to want all features possible but at half the price. $399 sits well but Apple will have to take a profit cut.

I’ve had my APMs for nearly two years now. I like them much better than my APPs for use around the home. I often use them instead of my APPs for phone calls. I always choose to use my APMs instead of my APPs when listening to music or watching movies/tv. Cannot think of any reason I’d replace them for at least another 2 years minimum.
