I'm not really seeing improved battery life with 6.0.1., but the day before it came out I did a battery test of my S5 (on 6.0) and got 18 hours with 27% left. Is that good? This is my first Apple Watch.

Depending on what you did (workouts, GPS, LTE?) and how much you used it and what you had on (AOD, noise etc) I would say that is fine

I had issues with the battery life when I first got my Apple Watch Series 5 but someone on here suggested unpairing and setting it up again.

Seems to have done the trick; I'm currently at 91% with 1 hour 25 minutes of usage and 4 hours 43 minutes on standby.

Not really sure there's a basis for that since we're rather in a state of flux with yesterday's 6.0.1 update, and various reports of AW4-level battery life on 6.1beta. JMO
When it all shakes out that is my guess.

Today is the first day post- 6.0.1 + 13.1.2

96% with the following over 3 hours off the charger and an hour usage.

I don’t want to jinx it and I know it’s early in the day, but so far this is a huge difference. Everything is on, AOD etc.

I did one 30 minute outdoor walk, no GPS, LTE was on but not used. I listen to audio on my phone quite a bit and the Now Playing app was on the watch a lot, I noticed that seems to use a fair amount of battery.

AOD was on, Noise was off.

Just done a 3 mile walk with dogs and no phone (so LTE kicked in) - took just over an hour and lost 5% on battery that is all.

I'm looking at 11 hours 51 mins standby that includes a 30 min workout and the walk for over an hour and battery on 65%. That is fine for me. AW5 SS 44mm, WatchOS 6.1 AOD on noise off. Much, much better than 6.0 so there are definitely performance enhancements in 6.1. I also think that 13.1.2 on the iPhone has some watch syncing enhancements.

I am even removing the battery complication i put on the face in my paranoia for the first time in about 3 years lol.
IMO, this would be on-par with the 4. Take out those workouts/walk with LTE and you could be at 75% after 12 hours.

My series 5 really has a f-king poor battery life. It deserves the swear word.
Hi all. An update:

after upgrading my watch to 6.0.1 and disabled music syncing in iPhone watch app, music, the battery life of my series 5 has returned to normal. Unplugged at ~11am this morning and now it’s 11pm and the watch still has 61% battery. I have always on display and noise detection on.

Same here. My S5 has been off of the charger for 3 hours and I'm at 99% with AOD, hearing, raise to wake all on.

disabled music syncing
The actual sync of music should only happen when the Watch is on charge, so that really shouldn’t be a variable here. I’m not saying it isn’t , but it shouldn’t be :)

I upgraded to 6.0.1 last night and today I am currently at 68% with 9.5 hours standby and 1hr 19m usage since last full charge. That is significantly better than I was getting on 6.0.

64% left

3 hours, 50 mins of usage
8 hours, 48 mins standby

Not sure if it’s much better

better!? You almost have 13 hours off charger and still have 64% left. That’s hella good. Mine is **** and I don’t even have 3 hours of usage a day.

Got a workout at 6pm so will see how much it drops.

I am skeptical that 6.1 is going to fix these battery issues. Apple had already made the claim of "same battery life as S4" when testing the watch with OS 6.0. Why does everyone seem to think that OS 6.1 is going to meet that claim when it is finally released?

Case in point: Apple claimed major battery life improvements on the iPhone Max Pro. This is absolutely true and it was true even with the mess that 13.0 was. Apple made these claims for the OS the watch was running on, not the OS that is coming at some point down the road. iOS 13 has been a very buggy release (hence the massive amount of updates we have seen). One thing that was true on day 1 was the stellar battery life regardless of the mess the rest of the OS has been for some people. I don't know why people assume the same wouldn't hold true for the watch. Apple tested the watch on 6.0 and made the claim of battery life based on 6.0.

I just don't think that there is going to be a major fix for this until Series 6 comes out next year with a more efficient processor. There could be marginal improvements for sure with OS updates but not anything major like people are expecting. I think Apple took a pretty big shortcut this year by not giving an update to the processor and I think its going to hamper the battery no matter what they do, unless you turn off the AOD. I hope I'm wrong and I guess we'll see soon enough.
You're theory does neither account for S4 watches losing massive battery life on watchOS 6.0 nor for S5 watches getting terrible battery life when crippled down to S4 specs (i.e. AoD off, noise off).
There definitely is some software influence.

Then how do you account for Apple claiming the battery life they claimed on the 6.0 software?

And I ran the betas of 6 all the way up to the Gold Master. Anyone putting that software on a S4 needs to wait a couple of days. It’s a major update and is going to take the watch a little time to sync. I have it on my S4 and the battery life is great.

Also, I can 100% confirm that if I turn off AOD and noise on my S5 that battery life is equal to the S4. We know from the tear down that these are the same watches. The S5 AOD is what kills the battery and no software is going to fix that until a better processor is in the phone. It might make a marginal difference, but it isn’t going to be some game changer that allows people To wear it for several days.

If you read the small print of battery claims for new devices, it always says tested with prerelease software. Generally months before the device is being sold. So I do think they tested it with a different watchOS version than it shipped with.

I updated to watchOS 6.0.1 last night and left the phone fully charged at 9pm. Went to bed and this morning my battery was at 61%?!!!!!!!!!! It got worse

Here you are:

Straight from: Apple

Edit: It's not only prerelease software, but also preproduction watches. So, a lot of variables in there …

Dude.... of course it’s pre-release software. Watch OS 6.0 was Pre-release software.... No one had it until the new watches were announced so I have no clue what you are trying to imply. 6.0 at the time of testing was Pre-release software.

So you are saying Apple changed not one single bit between testing sometime in August and the release in mid September?
I‘m sure you can prove that.

Think mine is improved...off charge at 7.30am and at 20.20 it’s on 29% left after a 40 minute workout as well...

it should last me til i go bed at 23.00 so for that it properly does it’s job. It’s better than it was before the update
