Really, Refurb units are awesome! I have never had a problem with any refurb unit I have purchased and most of the time the prices beat my edu discount.

As it was, I got my prev gen model whitebook NIB for $747 as the last one at the base PX when the "new" 2.13Ghz models came out so it worked out well in that respect...

Another vote for the refurb...they are just like new...

just make sure you buy apple care...

I've had mixed experiences with refurbished Macs, but also with brand new Macs. Either way, their is the possibility of a defect.
