Modern purchase 60-90 days ago in our household. SUV with a umm a spare.

"About one-third of new vehicles are not equipped with a full-size spare tire. Instead, many are equipped with a space-saver (donut) spare or tire sealant and inflation kit. Getting a flat tire is a major hassle and can be costly."

I call a spare anything that can get you down the road however in the above link they mention a "space-saver." If a Tesla doesn't even have a space-saver that is even more reason to say HELL to the no. lol.

Oh and you stated "it's very rare for any new car .... to come with a spare tire." The article above says "one-third of new vehicles are not equipped with a full-size spare tire." But they have a space-saver. To me your generalization of "very rare" is not accurate.
My last luxury car did not have a spare, but had run flats.
To each their own. I feel sad for people who don't learn how to change a tire. Not even hating just saying it's sad to me. Oh well. I will carry on.

I used very specific language when making my point. Please name any new car that comes with a spare. I cannot think of a single one.

“Moderately size SUV” - this is broader and more open to interpretation. Any BMW or Mercedes come with a space saver spare? I don’t think so. Jeep? Probably.

So I stand by my original comment. The Teslas in question without spares are cars or moderately sized SUVs. And they don’t come with a spare, nor do many other comparable vehicles in this segment.

I feel exactly the same about Assembly and Machine. Sad that so few know the foundations of many software languages. I will carry on.

Turn screen on
The only things I can think of are background app refresh, location services, nearby interactions (which I believe only matters for UWB cars).

When it happens again, can you use the key card to get in and go to the locks section to see if the car see's your phone as being active?

I dunno if the older (non-UWB) cars have the option, but in service mode you can see the signal strength (and relative position) of keys for the vehicle (phone, fob, watch).

Interesting to hear it works so well for you. I have to take my phone out constantly unfortunately.

It used to work perfectly for maybe 2 years but since I got the iPhone 15 pro a year ago it works very unreliable.
My take is that occasionally there is a glitch and I have to open the phone app. I’ll see how the Apple Watch works as I just got one and have to pair it.

Good ideas but I tried this already.

When I get into the car using my girlfriends iPhone 13 which works almost flawless, it sometimes also does not show my iPhone (in my pocket) as connected until I turn the screen on.

I am 99% sure it is due to the iPhone and not due to the car.

Same also for the new Apple Watch app. For that to work I usually have to manually open the app on the watch it’s not enough just to turn on the screen. I have not experimented much yet tho.
