Base 2.3 model here, Samsung screen.

No dead pixels, no image retention, no UI lag. The screen and the machine are simply amazing.

It's official!!!

I just received my third rMBP with LG screen. First one had severe IR from regular use. Second one had a massive dent as if someone took a blade and hacked the unibody (did not bother to test the screen). This last one also has IR and severe backlight bleed. All three had LG screens.

I just spoke with someone at AppleCare and the person confirmed that Apple is aware of the IR issue with the screens and is currently investigating. DO NOT ACCEPT A rMBP WITH A LG SCREEN!!! RETURN/EXCHANGE IT IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH A DEFECTIVE COMPUTER!!! KEEP RETURNING/EXCHANGING (do it 20+ times if you have to) UNTIL YOU GET A SAMSUNG SCREEN!!!

The fastest way is to go to an Apple store and start going through their stock of rMBPs until you find one with a Samsung screen. Some users have already obtained non-defective units via this method.

GRRRR!!! So I just posted how I thought my LG screen was good... I left a word document open (full of text of course) and upon restart the words are burnt into the screen. Of course this rollercoasted and I saw the checker-board screen test... Sure enough I have the same IR problem

I'm so annoyed with this. I'm not sure whether to ask for a replacement... It's a base model but upgraded processor so I can't drive to a apple store to test a replacement out as they won't have the upgrade... I don't want to wait another 8 -10 days for a replacement that may still be LG.

I also emailed the Apple rep prior to this fault and said it is in good condition (the previous unit was scratched), and now she is going to refund £50 back...

Is there any pattern in relation to a Samsung display and the Mac spec? Can I ask the rep if she can specify that? (of course she can't...)

I also see there is a 100+ page on apple's own forum about this, sharing the same story of Samsung and LG.

I'm really unsure what to do... I've tested it again and the problem is still there, both when I restart and just perform the checkerboard test...

Should I just not upgrade the processor and hope that the Apple store has a samsung model? It sounds silly on my part but I feel bad that all the time and energy gone into building it and having it shipped is wasted because the screen isn't as good as is should be...

I'm half wondering whether to email the Apple rep and see what she says, and whether a replacement is suitable, but I would want to hold this unit until the new one arrives...

The irony of the "straight out of the box you can have fun" ads :(

4th machine and finally a Samsung. And no cosmetic damages. :)

Which model did you order? BTO? Did you order online or go instore? Is there a good difference between LG and Samsung?

(read above as to why I'm thinking about a second replacement.)

What's the website that you paste your serial
Number into and it gives you build week and everything?

Also I have an LG Screen which is in perfect condition. Ran the checkerboard for 15. Clean. So I ran it back to back for 30 minutes, checked it no issue. But now I'm contemplating getting a 2.7/768/16 because of storage but at the same time that's the only model available in store with that storage space. I know if I pull a bad one out of the box I can exchange it right away but if I have the website handy I'll just check the serial number before opening it to make sure it's a recent build and then gamble to see if it's lg or Samsung.

Anyone know the website I'm talking about. Search in top left. Paste serial, breaks down all the info

This works if you have other apple store near you. I got rMBP in hong kong and my max times I could return was 5.
But now I'm back in NYC and I have 3 stores to try. Needless to say out of the 14day return period I returned 5 times in hong kong then 5 more times in NYC.
Not all Samsung screen is perfect. I had to return 3 Samsung screens. Not for IR but for dark yellow patches on lower left corner. I am passed my 14day and I still have a Samsung with slight yellow patch. Hoping my 3 yr apple care will take care of it later down the road.

got mine today!

LP154WT1-SJA1

LG

wasn't gonna look for problems but as soon as I started using safari, I noticed right away that the bottom half of the screen is yellowish! so i decided to test IR..... and sad to say its there :(

LG..so far so good..but would be happier if it from samsung :apple:

I'm trying to find out if people are happy with their retina display screens and who the manufacturer of the screen is:

So if you can run the following command in terminal it will tell you who the manufacturer is:
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Following is an interpretation of the string that is returned telling you who the manufacturer is.
LPXXXX = LG
LSNXXXX = Samsung

Please post the manufacturer and if you are having any problems or are happy with your display.

Thanks

Samsung, and i have a LOT of dead pixels.. at least 10.. and they appear after some use.. so at start i had 0.. and then i get 1, then 2 etc.. gonna see if i can get it replaced.

Samsung here. No ghosting, no dead pixels, no screen tearing. Touch wood.

The default color calibration is slightly too "warm" for my personal taste. I'm sure I'll have it sorted soon.

So far my only real complaint is: how am I going to keep this thing clean? Guess I will need to wash my hands every time I use it. :D

had an LG screen from an early batch (june), which developed 8 or so dead pixels, along w/ IR.

just got the screen replaced w/ a Samsung. we'll see how it goes. :)

Some help please.

Hey guys, I am totally new to the MacBook Pro and plan on buying one next week. I need suggestions as to what should I look for or ask the apple folks once I enter the store, in order to get the correct machine. I want the Samsung Retina. Will also be installing windows 7.

1) What I mean to say is, is there any thing in particular that I must be aware of before buying the MacBook Pro?

2) Are there any known issues?

3) Do I need to see any serial number or something on the box?

4) I will be using windows 7 primarily and need to know about driver installation for all the components and compatibility issues if any.

5) Dos and donts.

6) Any other recommendations are welcome.

Hey, im going to push that old thread, sorry for that:

So Im gonna get a 15mbpr now, but got some things on my mind:

1. Has Apple fixed anything yet? As far as I know there are 2 known problems: The ghosting and the image retention (not sure though how you call it) or are the machines I would buy now the same they have been in June?
2. How can I check whether my Macbook has one of the above named issues?
3. How long is the warranty? Isnt Apple obligated to give 2 years warranty in Europe due to the law? So is this whole Apple Care thing useless for people livin in Europe? Hope you can help me :)

Thanks

Wow

I finally got around to testing this and I have major IR. Not only the checkerboard, but my documents, IDE, etc. Everything is showing up. Granted, I can only reproduce it on the darkest gray background but it bugs me knowing it's there. Is this something you can get a replacement for outside the 14 day window? I've had mine several months.
