4th machine and finally a Samsung. And no cosmetic damages.![]()
I just received my third rMBP with LG screen. First one had severe IR from regular use. Second one had a massive dent as if someone took a blade and hacked the unibody (did not bother to test the screen). This last one also has IR and severe backlight bleed. All three had LG screens.
I just spoke with someone at AppleCare and the person confirmed that Apple is aware of the IR issue with the screens and is currently investigating. DO NOT ACCEPT A rMBP WITH A LG SCREEN!!! RETURN/EXCHANGE IT IMMEDIATELY OR YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH A DEFECTIVE COMPUTER!!! KEEP RETURNING/EXCHANGING (do it 20+ times if you have to) UNTIL YOU GET A SAMSUNG SCREEN!!!
The fastest way is to go to an Apple store and start going through their stock of rMBPs until you find one with a Samsung screen. Some users have already obtained non-defective units via this method.
I'm trying to find out if people are happy with their retina display screens and who the manufacturer of the screen is:
So if you can run the following command in terminal it will tell you who the manufacturer is:
ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6
Following is an interpretation of the string that is returned telling you who the manufacturer is.
LPXXXX = LG
LSNXXXX = Samsung
Please post the manufacturer and if you are having any problems or are happy with your display.
Thanks
seems like more LG screens shipping out than Samsung?
I believe LG is the primary supplier and that Samsung was only used to help out with the rush of orders.
Base 2.3 model here, Samsung screen.
No dead pixels, no image retention, no UI lag. The screen and the machine are simply amazing.
