Do people realize that 5G will require more towers, closer together? Everyone seems to gloss over the health & safety affects.
I'm old enough to have heard this same thing said about the original cell towers, then wifi, then about 3g. Then 4g.

5g isn't any different or some special magical new form of radiation, that's just now how any of this works.

I was going to ask if 5g has a stronger signal, but it appears by reading your post that it doesnt?
From the article:
That's not unexpected because Verizon is using mmWave 5G that's super speedy, but can be impacted by nearby buildings, trees, windows, and sometimes, even heat from direct sunlight.
Not really worried about safety issues... yet. Afaik, there's no medical consensus that there are negative effects.

I’m sure the various carriers will charge more for 5G access. I’m fine with that because I’m good with LTE and it’s unlikely they will build it out to where it’s useful to me for quite some time. 5G phones will be a bit of a bragging right and novelty but it’ll take several years at minimum before it’s really useful.

You'll have that fast service year one, when standing under a tower with clear line of site.
And then year two and the amount of people connected to that tower doubles / triples and your speed dramatically falls off.

I know someone remembers how fast LTE "was" the first year the iPhone had it versus 6 months to a year later.

having suffered through years of 28.8 kbps dial up modem speeds, (which rarely even hit those speeds) I can really appreciate 2Gbps.

Starting on the Apple ][ at 110 baud, then 300, then the Applecat 1200/2400, I hear you.

LTE though has been plenty fast streaming everything so far.

VR will need more bandwidth.

Long as you’re in a clear spot and the sun isn’t shining. Doesn’t sound worthwhile right now.

Too much sun is harmful too... Just sayin

Thanks greatly for the article !

This type of article is extremely important leading-up to the Release of the 2019 iPhones, so that informed decisions can be more-easily made !

I'm on the fence as to whether 5G is much of a benefit for most, even if ONLY an extra $10/month.

Alex Jones told me this will cause cancer.
Theoretically it actually could. If you think that radiation from Wifi is a joke it's not. Many of it's effects are still being researched. I wouldn't recommend having a 5G tower in your backyard. Note that common Wifi radiation from common routers is the same frequency band as microwave ovens but at a lower power. Subdermal skin irritation has been associated with excessive exposure to Wifi frequency radiation.

The entire proposed 5G spectrum covers a very broad range of frequencies. It covers proposed frequencies that can penetrate right through the human body (as do many commonly used frequencies for TV, radio, etc.) and many of the proposed frequencies will be broadcast at very high power. It really depends on what frequencies they are utilizing and how high their broadcast power is. We can only hope what they are deploying in the cities is safe.

They used to downplay the effects from high voltage power lines until children living in homes right next to them showed a statistical correlation with radiation related illnesses. They don't allow homes to be built too close to them anymore for that reason. You can hold a fluorescent tube light bulb in the air under many of the very high voltage lines and there is enough power leaking toward the ground that it will cause the bulb to light up and flicker.

A few months ago, I ran across this video from a 5G installer. It certainly is cause for concern.

Yes, but the "tech is God" types are too blind to even consider the downsides of 5G. To them, you are either for 5G or you are wearing a "tin foil hat". And sadly, most won't even watch the video from a guy who knows a lot more about the technology than mere mouse pushers...

I’ll upgrade when I’m forced and it’s not premium priced. I see no benefit for anyone besides the media hungry users. It’s not like your webpages or emails are going to be faster, just media.

We actually don't know much either way. We do know that 3G and 4G are safe enough because we have been using these frequencies in the wild for decades now. Simulating the affects of 5G is possible in the lab, but millimeter waves have not been used extensively in populated areas long enough to know. And scaring everyone just in case 5G is too dangerous is just as foolhardy as ignoring dangerous data.

90% of 5G deployment (all countries except U.S.) will be 3.5 GHz which is just another 4G spectrum so there is actually very little that will be different to worry about.
