Hello,

This is my first post. Nearly two years ago I bought a brand new 2015 MacBook Pro (bought in Nov. 2015) directly from Apple. Sadly, I have a lemon - this 2015 Mac Book Pro experiences constant GPU crashes. Because the warranty has already expired I decided to buy another MBP. I bought a refurbished 2015 MBP from the Apple site. The laptop should arrive Tuesday, October 24, 2017. I plan to test the laptop within the 14 day return period to be absolutely certain that there is no hardware problem like I have with my current MBP. I also plan to purchase Apple Care to extend the warranty. However, I'd like to catch any problems within the first 14 days - especially a GPU issue like I have now.

Here is an example of a GPU crash

So, my question is this: What is a good stress test for a 2015 MacBook Pro?

I definitely plan to use Final Cut Pro X as much as possible on the new MBP (this causes my current MBP to have GPU crashes), but what else can I do/test?

Thanks for reading,

David

EDIT:
I should note something rather important. My current (now old) MacBook Pro passes all self-diagnostic tests (spent many hours with Apple testing) - yet will have severe GPU crashes - typically while running Final Cut Pro X. Therefore, the only test I can think of would be to use Final Cut Pro X a lot on the laptop I'm testing.

If FCP is causing the crashes then that sounds like the way to go. Is this is a 2015 model with the external AMD R9 M370X dGPU? If so, I have never heard of one exhibiting crashes because of the GPU. There is a procedure to force the unit to use only the internal GPU.

Yes, I have the following for the GPU

AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB
Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I'm confident that 2015 MBP laptops typically don't have GPU issues like mine does - and really look forward to using FCPX on my new/old MBP without the GPU crashes.
