Tethering iPad with iPhone 3GS

I'll be JBing my 3GS when the next one is released. (Mine was at 3.1.3 out of the box.) I don't travel much but I'd like to have this option and have no intention of paying AT&T for two data plans.

I haven't jailbreaked my iPhone and this would be the only reason to as I can't justify the 3G version. How does jailbreaking with AT&T work. Just allows you to install other apps and things like that?

Can I do this with Netshare? I was one of the lucky to snag it when it was in the app store and have kept it ever since, though I never could get it to work with Windoze (in fairness I didn't try very hard either). I would break it out now if I can get it to work with the iPad that'd be great.

I have it too, and it won't work. Netshare creates a proxy server, but something has to create a wifi network for the iPad and iPhone to talk to first. Netshare doesn't do that.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention. There isn't a jailbreak for a 3GS ONLY. Every other iPhone model and the Touch models are jailbroken. I have a 3G on 3.1.3 and I did a jailbreak with it a week ago with Blackra1n. It works just fine. I have SBSettings, MyWi, Intelliscreen, and Backgrounder on it.

Man I wish I wouldn't have updated my 3GS to the latest firmware and bootrom. Cmon Geohot release a new jailbreak!

you cant update your bootrom. you can update you iboot tho.

Was it an iPhone 3G? I beat my head against the wall with trying and trying many times over with Sn0wbreeze and I couldn't make any progress. My jailbreak with Blackra1n only took a few minutes. I have iTunes 9.1 and didn't have any issues with it at all.

Can you describe more about where things failed? Are you not getting a proper customized IPSW? Is iTunes giving you some sort of error message?

Try going here and downloading f0recast. Run it and it will tell you if your phone can be jailbroken. It should tell you that it can be jailbroken but, because your baseband was updated, you can't unlock the phone.

I haven't jailbroken my phone, but left it on the 3.0 OS, with the tethering break. Any way to get my iPad to tether to my 3GS without jailbreaking? What does the mywi program do? Connect the iPhone via Bluetooth?
