Ok guys, so I really don't know how I got to this point, but it literally took countless hours of reading up and messing around. (Note: this was done with my 3G. Not sure about 3GS 0or 2G, thought I don't see why it wouldn't work).

Originally, I only had the AT&T carrier file (.ipcc) 5.0 version used in the last 3.0 beta, which enabled tethering. If you attempted to configure the network settings for MMS, however, tethering would break and no longer be an option (on 3.0 final the tethering option would simply disappear). Also, Visual Voicemail would sometimes break for a lot of people, so it seemed like you could only have 2 of the above 3 working together. So i messed around with a couple other .ipcc's till I landed on one which gave me all 3 (don't ask what I did exactly, cause I don't remember every step). I did a little mixing of .ipcc's to make sure that allowing a combination of 2 of the 3 wouldn't break the 3rd feature.

I have uploaded here my ATT_US.bundle, which gives you the camera (MMS) icon in messaging to allow for MMS (which is also already configured in network configurations, so you don't have to mess with any manual settings), Tethering is enabled and configured and Visual Voicemail works 100%.

You'll need to SSH into your iPhone: /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles and replace the ATT_US.bundle with the one I uploaded (backup your other one just in case).

For those wondering, no, I DID NOT HAVE TO CALL ATT FOR ANYTHING. In fact, looking at my bill right now, i still have an iPhone data plan + MMS OPT-OUT. Tethering usage also shows up as the standard "wap.cingular" on the bill, and MMS has worked for the past 3 days with no problems. Visual Voicemail continues to work as it always had for me since I updated to 3.0 and used the original 5.0 .ipcc to enable tethering. I just wanted to make sure it would not break before I posted something.

YMMV...keep this in mind. The camera icon in messaging did not appear for some reason on my initial re-spring, but it did show up later on (and it has stayed that way).

Here's an MMS I just sent to myself for proof:

Good luck. (Just extract the .zip file, which was originally a .rar file but I changed it due to MacRumors' file-type restrictions).

Use WinRar. As I stated above, it was originally a RAR file which I changed to .zip because MacRumors does not allow uploading of .rar files.

Change the file extension from .zip to .rar, then use WinRAR to extract it. Let me know if you have any problems. I can't use WinZip because my trial expired a while ago, sorry.

3G. I'll change it above. I don't see why it would not work on a 2G though.

Actually I did meant 3G. I remember something about 2G not being able to tether because of edge or something.

i'm trying this now, i'll post my results in a few minutes.

edit: nope, same as before. tethering and visual voice mail work flawlessly, but MMS send to about 95% then stop.

    Yes, a bundle.

I dropped it in, just doing a couple of resets before I start testing ti.

Well I still have tethering & Visual Voicemail.

Will do several more resets and see if camera pops up in Messaging.

EDIT: Since I am on the 200 messages per month for $5, this may not work for me. I may have to have AT&T remove the messaging plan, and see it the camera icon appears. I'm guessing the AT&T messaging plan is overriding the bundle modifications and therefore not allowing the camera to appear.

Wish the 3Gs would get jailbroken soon so I could try this.

Double check and make sure that MMS settings are in the cellular data network option:

    APN = wap.cingular
    MMSC = mmsc.cingular.com
    MMS Proxy = wireless.cingular.com:80

Like I said, it should already be there but double check. Then, do a re-spring. If not, do this also: If you have SBSettings, turn 3G on and off. Also, turn airplane mode on/off. Re-spring. If not, i am out of ideas...after I did this, it didn't show the camera icon either...when I went to answer a text later on, I noticed that it had appeared (this was a couple hours later). Hopefully the same will happen for you...

Same exact thing here. I'm not gonna bother.

Back to the regular bundle, sigh.

Nice try though. I got the camera icon, but it doesn't yet work (goes to 95% and holds there, then get red circle with "!" text to it.

    Oh well.

Sorry to hear it's not working for you guys. I just tried sending an MMS again and it went through fine...and I really didn't do anything different than the steps I posted here. The only thing I can thing of is discrepencies in our phone plans that allow some to send/receive MMS, and not for others. Oh well, worth a shot to post it here though...

Are you ONLY sending it to yourself?

I had previously replaced the APN file to enable tethering.

I have not figured out how to get into it to make changes unless I discard it and do it manually.

    Got any ideas ??

Uninstall that profile and use my bundle. It does everything that does and more. It'll give you the Cellular Data Network option in your Network settings as well.

No. Just sent one to my sister, who is on Sprint, and she got it just fine. I just send it to myself to prevent people from having to pay since MMS is extra for most plans.

Yes. Just remove the profile, re-spring, apply my bundle, re-spring. You should have all the options available under your network settings. Try out sending an MMS and see if it works for you (Tethering and Visual Voicemail I can guarantee works 100% without problems. This is all normal).

OK, after 1st respring, no APN settings at all, will re-ssh the bundle and do a restart.

    Thanks

If it doesn't reinstall the APN settings, I may have to do a "reset network settings" then try it.

Yea, nothing yet. I'm gonna do a reset then try it again.

If it doesn't reinstall what APN settings? I am not sure I understand what you're trying to do here. If you use my bundle, that's all there is to it. You don't have to set ant APN settings up. ONLY the MMS needs to have a couple manual entries, but my bundle should also already have that set.
