I have a factory unlocked iPhone and I've had tethering since 3.0.

I'd wager that you're not "using the unlock", and are instead using it with an Apple-approved operator. That'll work with 3.0 and later.

This change is for using an unlocked phone with an unapproved operator, which previously didn't work with tethering.

I'm not sure what the OP is talking about, but under Settings->General->Network there is no "Cellular Data Network" setting. That is only there if you apply one of the various hacks.

I am running 3.1.3 on a stock un-jailbroken and locked 3GS.

Perhaps this refers to factory-unlocked phones?

Some carriers choose to hide this menu. In the UK, on o2 (I can see it, mine is still locked) it's available, but on Orange it is hidden.

Don't any of you use more than 5GB of traffic per month? I've thought about buying an iPhone and tethering, but I use ~1GB per day, so that's a no-go.
Or do you have truly unlimited data plans? I looked around but couldn't find any...

This works with a factory-unlocked 3GS (from Italy - purchased from TIM) on T-Mobile USA. Of course it's still only EDGE speed, but so was my old Sony Ericsson phone. (Now the only feature I'm still missing is the W710's step counter; the Nike+iPod isn't quite the same thing.)

ive got the 3g jailbroken but not unlocked. im using 3.1.3 and i use to tether on 3.1.2 with one of the sites i found. any idea how i can get tether to work again. and i like the simple tether like you go to a website download some crap then you turn tether on and off thru setting>general>network...... not an app or anything. any ideas? im trying to figure this out. im mad at apple right now. they updated my phone and i had no idea cause i had to restore it and somehow i got updated.

Tethering

Ok so I have a AT&T Locked 3Gs with 3.1.2. I really want to tether real bad! it will save me about $110 per month in fees at my office. if someone could tell me step by step on what to do I would appreciate it. I can fix them when they break but the software side of it still makes me dizzy!

will I be able to tether with my data cable or will I have to go USB? the cable will be ideal cause it will not run the battery down at the same time. any special sofware I would need for my pc?

Thanks in advance!

I'm on at&t and 3.1.2 on my device and have the tethering option. I'm jailbroken but I have a Blackberry plan and had to manually enable my APN in order to use my iPhone with my Blackberry SIM.

damn i upgraded to 3.1.3

:(

i need to get back 2

3.1.2

and i found this link

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/09/tuaw-how-to-downgrading-your-3-1-3-iphone-to-3-1-2/

has anyone else tried this it looks rather difficult & in the last sentence it mentions that this doesn't downgrade the base band, uh oh for a novice like me it seems a little over my head.

is there still no tethering option for at&t Los Angeles ppl on 3.1.3 !?!!?!

i wish i didn't have to try to downgrade to 3.1.2 in LA just to use tether!

Celcom Malaysia internet tethering

Upgraded to 3.1.3, and it works out from the box for Celcom Malaysia.

Hey I still cannot figure how to enable the internet tethering for my iphone 3gs 3.1.3. I'm using Celcom's default settings and the internet tethering option still do not appear. How did you configure this? It's be a great help!

PS- Currently my APN is Celcom3g, and username and password are left blank.

tethering help

Hi all,

I'm using a stock, unlocked, un-jailbroken 3G (1st gen) running 3.1.3 on AT&T and I would love to enable tethering. Can someone please provide me with some advice on this?

Thank you all

Marcos
