From what I can tell, the gain in resolution from the 3x module over the main module is huge. That means the 15PM is significantly worse in the 80-100mm focal length range, one of the most usefull FL range.

In the other hand, results from the 3x module are still great at 6x (for whatever reason, Apple use a base FL of 27mm to compute the mag factor, so 6x on the 15pro means 6x27=162mm).

I would definitely not call trading a 80mm lens for a 200mm an upgrade.

Hopefully, Apple is aware of this and is working on improving the short tele results for a future release (with an intermediary module, or a main module with more pixels).

Maybe in not so distant future Apple will give us 4 lenses at around 13mm, 26mm, 78mm, and the last one they can go as high as they like to make the that Nx number look good to those who chase it.

Kind of like what Samsung is doing this year. Though rumor has it next year Samsung will remove the 3x from their current 0.5x, 1x, 3x, 10x quadra and replace it with a 5x. Terrible move. I am hoping they change 10x to 5x instead.

what the hell is a tetra-prism and why does it matter? I take pictures of my kids and food. Professional photographers who are very good at their craft are like....1/100,000,000,000,000....they're not using a smartphone....

For you it just means the 16 pro will have a telephoto lens similar to the 15 pro max (5x) instead of 15 pro (3x)
