Played it, deleted it. It’s terrible.

It almost feels like an alpha version. 🤨

Tried it on macOS and despite having a controller connected the mouse/trackpad cursor was still visible (not uncommon for macOS games on Apple Arcade) so I had to manually tuck it aside. Then we have the GUI and visibility of what button is selected and highlighted – it's really difficult to see in some cases when using a controller and while better when pointing at them with the mouse or trackpad they look rather cheap and ”unfinished” design wise.

Also I a few times felt the response to be somewhat sluggish when turning and moving a game piece (tetromino) using the buttons on my controller.

Hope the developer can make the game feel more polished, because it would be nice to have a proper Tetris game on Apple's platforms. :)

They undid whatever broke the purchased version. It should still be in your purchases; you should be able to download it and play again.

Note this is only for the purchased version, the free-with-ads one stayed dead.
I just redownloaded the old premium version, and it works!

This music in this Beat version is quite awful.

I prefer the EA version. Luckily I purchased premium, which works again.

I also stopped halfway through the tutorial as I didn’t even understand what it was trying to make me do, but it WASN’T teaching me how to play classic tetris, but something about beat chains?

Is there a classic tetris mode with russian folk music?

Dropping tetrominoes to the beat is so dumb. I suspect I’ll be deleting the app. I was looking forward to it, too.

I don't see a way to play with the classic theme unless it's unlocked later.

The third mode is the same as the continuous mode in the original game, but there is no mode with completing levels like the original that I can see.

I wonder if Tetris Effect will ever be on mobile. It's probably the best version of Tetris I've ever played and it'd be perfect as a mobile game.
It’s coming to Switch in October, so there’s a little hope! Thrilled to get it on a mobile device. To your point, iPhone would be sweet.

I remember years ago I bought Tetris for my iPhone and played it a lot. Loved it. Then at one point it wouldn't let you play unless you were online. Tetris? Then the app eventually told me they were phasing it out and it would no longer work after a specific date, which is did eventually die. I felt pretty ripped off and ticked off. Since when does a simple game like that need an internet connection?
I'd pay 20 bucks for a simple non-internet version of the old school Peggle app.

I understand Apple Arcade is an attempted solution to fix it, but in my experience monetization has killed iOS gaming.

Peggle was such perfect mobile fun. I miss it. 😔

If anyone here is looking for a good mobile game to play, I'd suggest Nier: Reincarnation. It's very well made, visually interesting and has a narrative and everything, oh and it has great music too, and it eases you into the gameplay. Recently came out. It's a gatcha sadly... but they're having a LOT of events right now that will probably net you a good, strong start. Rerolling is easy and doesn't take too long. If anyone's curious now is the time to try it.

This is why I'm wary about buying games on the app store now...

Seems Final Fantasy 9, which I bought for like $17-$20 when it came out... Is just gone from the app store. Seems they never optimized it for iOS 14 and I guess after some time Apple just removes them. I never did get to play it fully. Thankfully I do have it on my PS4.

Yikes... doesn't give me any confidence in the store as a consumer.. 😬

1.2 GIGABYTES. What the hell.

Original Tetris ran on an 8MHz 68000 w 512K.
This Tetris heats up an iPhone 8+ and drains the battery in about an hour…
Insane this. I get that the graphics and all would be overhauled but 1.2GB? Really?

The amazing Resident Evil 2 game was around the same (2 CDs)… and bonus, when ported to the N64, they managed to fit in 64MB, with all of the tons of cinematics, songs, etc in it.

Deleted as soon as it tried to tell me how to play it with no apparent way past the tutorial. Few games like that recently, interruptions at the start are an absolute pain.

This old EA version of Teris that I think was released 2011 or something still plays really nice and controls are responsive on my old iPad 2:

2 CDs means it was 5-10 years later. Tetris ran on Mac Plus in the late 80s! And it was fun. It also ran on color Macs IN COLOR! My friend had a Mac IIcx (his Dad was an educator so it was somewhat affordable with massive education discounts of the time). Tetris screamed on that thing…

Had to delete app. Too much space and I can’t afford the battery drain to play it.

This game is pretty rough. Touch controls are flaky at best, tutorial prompts you to hit “A” and “RB” but there is no controller support, portrait only (this is probably alright but again, no controller support), and it’s massive - over a quarter of the size of FANTASIAN, an 80 hour RPG. I was optimistic because I really liked playing stuff like Lumines back in the day but sheesh.

Lol “highly anticipated”

never heard of this but seems up my alley. But no thanks to Apple Arcade. I’ll wait until it comes to a console.
