Yeah, it opens up the Messages app on my Macbook Pro when I toggle it on the iPhone. This is the one thing I was looking forward to in Yosemite and iOS 8.1 and now it's a dud.

I had the same issue.

Enabling people to contact you not only using your phone number, but also the iCloud email on the iphone and mac worked for me.

Thank you!! This worked for me.. not sure if this is a bug or something as its not made clear!

That sort of worked. It opened up messages on my iMac but no code appeared :(

It worked for me but the window with the code opened up behind all the other windows I had open on the screen. Maybe try it with only the Messages window open.

The fix is you have to have an email enabled on both your phone and mac iMessage app. It's a pain as you have to then turn them all off (if like me you JUST want your number given to people) on FaceTime and iMessage on both your iphone and mac.

Bam that did it! Thanks for the tip :)

Same here! Looks like you can't just use your phone number...I hope I don't run into the issue of the phone sending from my email instead of my phone number, thats what was happening before which is why I set it up as phone number only.

I found this from someone named Sad Professor on another forum

"Alright, i finally managed to get it working. An email address has to be enabled for iMessage. It won’t work if you only use your number. Once it’s working you can disable the email again. Silly bug."

worked for me.

Edit: bit late, wasn't I

Took a minute for mine to work. For some reason, I see 3 different of the same computer too. No idea why.

I updated and got my text forwarding good on both my Macbook Air and iMac.

Although, I do have my iMac listed on my devices on my iPhone, but I do have my Macbook Air listed twice. Any one know whats up with that?

Yeah looks like it still works even if you disable the email after the setup which is good.

Worked for me too. Thanks.

This feature must work with iCloud, when I disabled my iCloud email address from Messages the feature no longer worked, enabling it again brought the feature back.

What does that mean? How do you enable to people to contact me not only by my phone number? I went into iMessage settings on macbook pro and I have enabled phone number and emails and I still can't connect to macbook pro. I only was able to connect to iPad.

I got the code to appear by signing out of iCloud on my iPhone, then signing back in. I also only have my phone number selected for iMessages - I did NOT have to enable my iCloud email.

Hope this works for more than just me!

edit - you do however need your iCloud email enabled for texts to send from your mac.

I finally got it working but it's only working as far as receiving texts, if I try to send them from my computer it doesn't work, says not delivered. Any ideas?
