Yeah, it opens up the Messages app on my Macbook Pro when I toggle it on the iPhone. This is the one thing I was looking forward to in Yosemite and iOS 8.1 and now it's a dud.

Same iCloud account on both devices? Try a reboot of both as well.

Took a minute for mine to work. For some reason, I see 3 different of the same computer too. No idea why.

Yeah looks like it still works even if you disable the email after the setup which is good.
Mine did not work after I disabled the email account. I will have to try it again.
