What is the under/over on when there will be lawsuits filed alleging antitrust issues about this?
Doubt it...there is another app called Zinio where you can read magazine but you have to subscribe to them individually. They off a lot more choices including a lot of foreign magazines.

They already need to redesign the app...I don't want to wade through 100 magazines to find the ones I'm interested in. They need a way to make a tagged or favorites filter.

And they need to fix the interface/user experience in News+. Many of the magazines are not using hyperlink to go from the TOC to the actual articles... many magazines appear to be just images of the actual magazine page... c'mon, Apple... you're better than that.

Hope Apple News+ provides access to all the magazine back issues that Texture does now - I can only see the current issue in News+.

Some the mags that I subscribed to in Texture DO offer back issues in News+. But not 2-3 years worth, like I had in Texture.

Unlike AppleMusic and AppleTV+, AppleNews+ isn’t expected to make to generate significant revenue and is more of a loss leader to sell iPhones and iPads.

It sucks for Texture users on Android but maybe that’s the point. It’s a nudge to get them to move to iOS.

Yes a news app that contains very little news and some magazine PDFs, that should get those phone sales growing again..

Per the MR article:
"Apple News+ subscribers can access current and past issues and individual articles from magazines such as The Atlantic, Better Homes & Gardens, Bon Appétit, Condé Nast Traveler, ELLE, Entertainment Weekly, ESPN The Magazine, Esquire, Food & Wine, Good Housekeeping, GQ, Health, InStyle, Martha Stewart Living, National Geographic, New York Magazine, The New Yorker, O, The Oprah Magazine, Parents, People, Real Simple, Rolling Stone, Runner’s World, Sports Illustrated, TIME, Travel + Leisure, Vanity Fair, Vogue, WIRED and Woman’s Day."

However, I haven't seen a way to pull up back issues...maybe back issues from now forward. We'll see when next months issues come out.
*edit* I figured it out, tap the magazine name at the top when you have it open and it gives you access to other issues.

Except that Texture shows complete magazines as published. Apple news shuffles the pages and gimps the content.
Not sure what you mean? News+ has the complete magazine as published except those enhanced for online viewing which is navigated a little differently...the same as on Texture.

I purchased a 2 year subscription to texture 6 months ago when it was half off. I would be very sad if they don't let me transfer it over to apple news +, which it seems like is happening. makes me not want to get it cause I feel ripped out of what I already paid for.

Hope the News+ app catches up to Texture functionality :/

For example, there doesn't seem to be a way to "favorite" magazines and configure them automatically to download for offline reading when new issues are ready, etc.

It is also nowhere near so easy to navigate to back issues, etc.

There is a way to favorite mags and they auto download, so long as you are on a WiFi connection and you’ve got adequate space. You can navigate to back issues fairly easily, but they could eliminate one tap from the work flow.

I’d prefer to have a setting to turn auto download on or off, because we’re on a metered connection.

It's amusing how those who are excited about the annoncement of Apple News+ ignored similar services like Texture earlier. The fact that Texture wasn't a runaway success doesn't sound encouraging for Apple News.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple offering a News+ app on Android (similar as to how they offer a Apple Music app). I think eventually there will be an Apple TV app for Android also.
I suspect they're being very careful about how much they pre-announce, at this point, what with the AirPower troubles (I imagine "AirPower" will now be the go-to retort, in the Apple offices, any time anyone suggests that something untested "will definitely be ready on time"). So, announce the things that you're very confident that you can roll out, and get the buzz going for the service, and then work on Android/etc. versions and announce them when they're ready to go. An app for Android, at least eventually, seems like a no-brainer. (And if, in the meantime, a few people buy into the Apple ecosystem for this, that's not gonna hurt their feelings.)

I can still see Apple release it on Android soon though.

It’s sad that in this day and age where you can find information on almost anything but people just seem to be less and less knowledgeable, and more and more misinformed.

Heck, you can even find tons to read on News alone, which is entirely free.

But is it as seamlessly integrated and as inviting to use?
Alas, Apple News + is NOT as seamlessly integrated and inviting to use as Texture...so while it might be better than the public library option, it’s not Texture either. Loose-Loose from my perspective. I just don’t get why Apple New + didn’t integrate more of Texture. It’s a truncated version, and not nearly good enough.

Compared to Texture, News+ is a massive hot mess. So Apple did a half-a$$ed implementation of Texture in News+ and killed off Texture with the goal of driving Texture users to News+... but I may well do without for the time being. Not happy about the turn of events...

I did not see a listing of ALL the magazines that are available on the Apple News+ web page. Is there a complete list somewhere???

Even the Genius Bar / Support does not currently have this information available. I assume it should be ready in the next few days.

I don't understand one thing. News+ will initially cover the English and French speaking countries.
That's OK, who makes the deals faster is better off.

But why can't Europe (not only Brexit-UK knows those languages, also Europe like reading them) also access the content?
Even VPN does not allow access from Europe, as Apple only allows access from areas identical to the Apple Account CC.

Apple has thus created a contract model that draws intercontinental and intercultural boundaries.
Why can't you enjoy American Vogue in France, Netherlands or Germany?

Tim Cook, I'm asking for your personal opinion. Please let your talks be followed by facts! Renegotiating contracts is even more complex.

Here is a comparson of the two services:
Apple is working hard to implement Texture and become even better. Give them the time, it's a lot of work!
