I had my HD replaced under warranty because of that oft-reported 'chunk' or 'pok' sound made by the actuator arm slamming against the guiding mechanism every 6 or 7 seconds. Seemed like a good time as any to install Leopard right from scratch.

Went without a hitch.

After install, used Migration Assistant to pull across apps and settings from a Tiger clone made with SuperDuper to an external FW drive. The only minor things were:

1. add-ons for firefox weren't activated (but were installed)
2. For some reason the ethernet connection didn't quite catch the first time I plugged it in, but did when I removed it and re-inserted it
3. skype worked at a first but then refused to launch. Had to re-install and now all well.
4. Quite a few menubar apps didn't make the migration (including istat menus and SoundSource from Rogue Amoeba) but easily re-installed.
5. My MailSteward database didn't quite make the migration either, but easily enough re-constructed.

Parallels seems to work fine (only tried it once, though). Otherwise, all fine here.

Until i can updrade to CS3 and apple fixes the ATI graphics card drivers I'm going to have to stay in Tiger.

That was an issue i had after doing a Clean Install. All of my CS3 programs quit working, and i have yet to reinstall them back on my computer [i have been to busy at work, so a good reinstall would probably do the trick], but other than that its all good.

Choppynes probably Quartz Extreme issue

It sounds like maybe there was an issue with the quartz rendering causing the choppy transitions. If one uses Quartz Debug to disable extreme it will have the same effect on all macs forcing the rendering to be done in a much less-than-optimal way--Just try disabling it and minimizing a window, opening dashboard, expose, etc. I would be curious to hear if you had a translucent or opaque menubar (big indicator of hindered/disabled quartz extreme)

Also, I have been experiencing those graphic artifacts (usually in thin horizontal bands in windows) for a month or so back in Tiger and persistent in Leopard. I just assumed it was the graphics chip in the MacBook Pro (128MB X1600) just being too hot because the cooling is pretty awful, but maybe it is driver related. (Does anyone else have this issue? In Tiger or Leopard?)

Thanks God I change back to Tiger... now is working ultra nice. I'll wait for those video drivers for Leopard and than I'll change Tiger...

I re-entered the Tiger zone last night. Leopard had so many little annoyances that it wasn't worth it.

It killed all my custom folder icons.
Having to use aliases to get simple dock folders.
Safariblock not working for me, even with the prescribed fix.
Sidebar icons too tiny.
Shiny dock ugly/hacked dock too dark.
Annoying+Useless=Stacks.
No organizing Finder search results by date mod'd or size, or label.
Fonts in menu bar looked ratty and thin.
PNG icons lost transparency.
More stuff I probably forgot.

You mean this?

i lurrve it. love it!! love it!!!! i do! i do!!!

... and you will come to love it too!!! :D

(i hope im not tempting fate with all this praise )

I went back to Tiger but it was only for the drivers of the video card... when they fix this I will go back to Leopard

anyone else having wireless issues?

it seems like my router (and the one at work) are reseting for no reason at all...

I dont know if you use your computer for work or personal. Part of the fun in new stuff, is figuring things out, overcoming some glitches, providing feedback and interacting with the community. If everything worked perfectly every time, there would be no need for these forums.

I think you also learn more about your system and OS and applications by having to figure things out.

Yep... I'm staying with the Tiger until the Leopard grows up... :)

You are totaly right but I use the computer for work and I can't have a computer that doesn't works completly. I work as a photographer and the most that I use is graphics so if my video card is not working 100%, I can't stay calm... so I'll better wait for the updated driver of the video card... with Tiger everything is working very nice and smooth

MSN refuses to connect, it just hangs on connecting. A quick search on the Adium forums threw up some terminal commands that echoes strings of some sort into a file, it's a temporary fix which has it working, apparently it should be removed when adium is updated.

Dunno if you noticed this aswell, but when on the buddy icon selection screen, you just get the open file window and not the old window where you could drag an image onto it an d zoom it in and out etc

You mean this?

I know you can add criteria after beginning a search, but it takes like 87 extra clicks. On Tiger, you type a keyword in the search box, get the results, click the date modified bar, or size, or whatever bars you've added in the list view, and you're done. Leopard limits search results directly in the Finder to 3 things...name, kind and last opened.

I almost wonder if it's a bug. Why would they add only 3, and how did they determine the level of usefulness of "last opened"? I've personally never used last opened as a search criteria.

Thank goodness Apple doesn't read forums like this! If they did there would be no innovation. What a conservative bunch.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Also if you hover over people's names the display pics that come up are blurred horribly half the time. All of the problems have been ticketed on the adium forums, I'm waiting for an update to be released very soon.

im having some issues as well

I wouldn't do anything as drastic as going back to tiger but at the same time leopard is hardly flawless. In most areas it is a HUGE improvement but there are a few very irritating flaws and compatibility issues. Azureus causes my MB
to kernel panic like 50% of the time, and its an issue that alot of individuals are having. Im sure by 10.5.1 it will be solved though.

Everything smooth as buttah here with Leopard but that thing with Adium is a little annoying. Especially the thing with not being able to switch the pictures. Boo hiss. But it's a minor annoyance I'm sure they will be fixing that pretty soon.

im sorry to hear but im definitely not looking back. i love leopard, i dont run alot of apps so its so smooth.

I have no doubt there will be leopard updates before we know it. There's def some small issues... Nothing thats making me want to go back to Tiger though. Loving Leopard so far

Wow... this has been a good thread.

I came back to Leopard to give it a last try and now everything is working really nice...

Give em hell, Sadhe!

However, I think you're a newbie, and we've been having lots of problems with newbies lately on this forum with posts and all that, so mind your manners cause everyone knows knewbies like us are all basically dumazzes and the general rule of thumb for IQ is 1% of your post count** so until you get at least 10,000 posts you're just to ignorant to speak with.

thank you,

BTW - there are dozens of memory leaks in Leopard that'll take them at least 2-3 months to get a grip. Those Leopard guys are exhausted, so come on give em a break. You'll see patches shortly. Just reboot every now and then until these libraries settle down and the apps people are slapped back into line
