Pay $1000 more for the notch area screen? A black box at the top when we watch movie? Not a chance for me.
The only way you will see the notch when watching a movie is if you zoom to fit the height. And if you are voluntarily cropping the left and right side of the movie, you have no place to talk about whether the notch is visible. But much like full screen apps, I doubt movies can stretch up to the notch area. This sounds like someone complaining about how you can see the phone notch with videos while ignoring all the top and bottom they have cropped to get videos to fill the width.

However, you are paying more, but much less than $1k more, for a much higher quality HDR mini-LED screen which is absolutely better while watching movies.

This is something I'm debating. I bought the Air 1 week ago and have a new MBP on the way. I will try it out for a few days and make the decision to keep the Air or keep the MBP.

I don’t think that the screen increase is that much significant in real life use because of the notch as you said.

But you can’t honestly say it’s the only thing different between MBA and MBP. More GPU, more IO, ProMotion, Mini-LED, fan, etc. Maybe that’s not important for you, but it’s important for many customers of the new MBP.

$1999 = $999 x 2 + no notch + $1 more

Thanks for sharing this insightful thought process of yours, you apparently still don’t understand that the “notch” provides you additional screen real estate and then not even to talk about the processor and other improvement…

Some people need to reassure themselves of their decisions by making the other choice seem ridiculous or stupid. Not a great habit.

May be you like to pay $1000 for the notch, I dont.

New pro doesn’t even have Touch Bar, honestly it looks like a $199 Chromebook.

If that's all you see between the 14" Pro and the Air then you don't need the Pro.

How could anyone boil the price difference down to the notch and not take into consideration the M1 Pro, ports, and redesign?

Who still use these ports in 2011/2022?

Redesign…no Touch Bar just a black keyboard…are you sure it looks different from a $199 Chromebook except the notch?

M1 Pro, except you need a laptop to do research with serious math or making 8k movie in cafe this kind of workload, you cannot tell a different in real life comparing to M1.

Among the many differences you have ignored....

The $2000 MBP 14" comes with a 512GB SSD & 16GB of RAM.
The $1000 MBA comes with 256GB SSD & 8GB RAM.

Then what do you need these for? 16gb ram do you really need? Almost no one even play game with MacBook.

256gb, 8gb ram together is like $100 for a normal laptop.

Not at all, that notch is tall.
I didn't say it's 0.1" tall. I just said that of the diagonal across the screen, corner to corner (that's what the 14.2" inch is measured from), only 0.1" goes through the notch area. If you remove the notch, the screen is like 14.1".
