I didn't say it's 0.1" tall. I just said that of the diagonal across the screen, corner to corner (that's what the 14.2" inch is measured from), only 0.1" goes through the notch area. If you remove the notch, the screen is like 14.1".

That whole horizontal area of notch cannot really be used that much. For other laptops, 14” is a real 14” rectangle without notch and this is much more practical.

Then what do you need these for? 16gb ram do you really need? Almost no one even play game with MacBook.

256gb, 8gb ram together is like $100 for a normal laptop.
I'm not telling you that you need anything. I'm pointing out an obvious part of the price differential.

Are you under the impression that anyone here is going to be upset with you, if you buy a MBA instead of a Pro laptop that you obviously don't need?

This is something I'm debating. I bought the Air 1 week ago and have a new MBP on the way. I will try it out for a few days and make the decision to keep the Air or keep the MBP.
I have both the M1 Air and 14" M1 Max and the display alone is worth the upgrade. Night and day difference. Keyboard is nicer too, it has a bit more bounce-back. The keyboard backlight is cleaner looking as there is hardly any light bleed coming out from the key edges, which couples nicely with black aluminum backing.

I just come to a forum to share what I think. Air is enough for most people. The Pro doesnt even look like pro or feel like pro now. Apple just sells you a more powerful machine but most of us don’t need or can feel it.

I agree that the Air is enough for most general tasks. And the Pro is there for demanding users. However, while statements like “The Pro doesn’t look professional” are subjective, it is factually incorrect to say that you are paying double for just the notch. What you are getting for the extra is a significantly better screen, better speakers, double the drive space, double the ram, better cooling and a much more powerful computer.

For most people cannot feel the speed different in real life then it is really down to just the notch. I have pointed out this 14” screen is not real 14” since the left and right screen areas of notch are hard to be used. Most people cannot tell the screen quality different too. Then the real only different left for most people is just the notch.

The left and right side of the menu bar are easy to use, just like they are with the Air; it’s only hard to use if you access the Apple menu, for example, by putting you pointer at the top right and drag left.

Simply put, if you are a regular person with general needs who can’t appreciate better sound or a better screen just get the Air. If you need more get the Pro.

Easy peasy.

Pffft, only $1000 for the notch, I’m paying way more than that for the notch. Thank god the OP has shown me the light and wisdom of my folly.

This is deffo in the top 5 worst new MacBook Pro threads I have seen so well done OP. Would love to say this is a troll thread but I think they might just believe the utter rubbish they are spouting. Who knows, it’s the internet.

MB Air is enough for most people: Nobody with a basic clue will dispute that.

The rest of your statements are mainly in the "sour grapes" category.

Mainly three kinds of people need new pro:
1. Just to show off
2. Phd to do research in a cafe with massive amount of maths, no idea why do that in a cafe or somewhere that needs a laptop
3. Serious movie maker, making 8k movies but no idea why need to do that somewhere like a cafe with a laptop.

Most of the people get new pro because of reason 1 but they would never admit.

I don’t know know why most of the commenters in this thread and even choosing to enter into a discussion with the OP. It’s very rare I see threads on MacRumors as stupid as this one.

Also - everyone with dual external displays? Literally everyone in my office has dual monitors and the Air can't drive dual external monitors.... Also - anyone who wants a higher quality Webcam built in on the road when they travel?

What version of the 14” did you get? Pro or Max?

If I was to guess he got the same version that all the people who write quality threads like this got. The imaginary kind where they have made up a strong opinion based on not owning the device.
I figured as much; definitely seems more like a MacBook Amateur kind of user.

Other 14" laptops are also 16:9 aspect ratios, not 16:10.

Typing this on a 16"... Yeah the notch is no issue.

You seem like a pretty low effort troll.

All of this, all of it, is just your opinion, which you apparently decided we all need to hear. Congratulations, we all now know you have a functioning ***hole. Thanks for the unintentional anatomy lesson. Cheers.

Wow, lots of emotions in this thread…
But have anyone considered that when the OP talks about movies he might be talking about TikTok-clips and other vertical formats? Just saying…
