I don't get it, I won't be buying it. I'd much rather demonstrate the iPhone to someone with Labyrinth or something equally impressive.

Labyrinth is OK, could be a better implementation, but impressive?? It's obvious a lot more work went into Koi Pond, and the interface is slicker too.

It amazes me how many people posting here are getting upset over this application, calling it stupid, dumb, proof that the App Store is filled with crap, etc. Wow! Lighten up. It's only a dollar, and it's okay if people like it and buy it. Really. It's not the end of the world that people want to watch fish swimming on their phones. It won't cause the earth to spin backwards. I promise.

If you don't want it, don't get it. If you do want it, then buy it. Getting upset over this application is funny... people really need to relax more. The stress is obviously getting the better of you.

I don't get it

I am completely perplexed as to why anyone "uses" this app. I wouldn't want it if it were free. If you enjoy it okay, but I don't get the point.

no kidding! im going to purchase this app as soon as i get home just so people will get even more P'ed off!! ROFL!

I bought it just to see what it was all about, 1-2 days later my girlfriend saw my account debited for $1.05 and asked me what I bought. I told/showed her and said "that is the dumbest thing you could of possibly have bought for the iphone". I didn't go yell at her for paying $9.99 for mrs pacman. But whatever.

Anyway, I love it, it provides a good ambiance on my office desk.

If you like a good atmosphere at your office desk or the like, Ambiance and aSleep are two must haves at 99 cents a piece. I have both, downloaded aSleep first. Then the next day Ambiance added a timer and I switched since it had better sounds. Now aSleep has 50 sounds for 99 cents and is the better app.

So my girlfriend usually doesn't like my iPhone or the apps I show her, but she instantly loved Koi Pond. I made the mistake of showing her while she was driving. She grabbed it from me and started over feeding my fish. I had to take it from her for fear of her crashing into something.

My list of apps that get the biggest positive responses from various, usually iPhone bashing family members and friends:

MyWeather - grandparents go crazy for this
Band - most everyone, especially my friend who plays in a well known local band
Sketches - most everyone, kids, girlfriend's mom who is deaf
Ambiance / aSleep - parents and grandparents
TyroTuner - most everyone, especially musical friends
Tip - most everyone for simplicity
AOL / Pandora radios - my roommate who hates the iPhone always wants me to plug in my iPhone to his AUX input on his car to listen to Pandora
Sportacular - again my roommate who hates the iPhone, who plays college sports
Level - most everyone, my girlfriend for hanging pictures
Units - my grandma who cooks all the time
Remote - hooked it up at best buy and impressed some customers
Labyrinth - my step grandma who hates technology - she bought me a wooden one back in the day when i was little
BreakClassic - girlfriend loves this game, hates all the other games, and i have several
Crash Kart - all kids love this game
Netshare - my uncle who hates apple was impressed with that, and he is never impressed
eBay - my mom always grabs my iPhone when i'm at home from college so she can check her ebay store on the go
Dice - everyone loves the shake to roll with vibration feedback. they usually don't care until they try shaking it themselves
Shazam - girlfriend who loves knowing the names of songs and artists
Photoswap - my sister and girlfriend thought this was pretty wild sharing pics with random people

Also, why in the world would you give your girlfriend access to your financial information?? Haha...

I play with Koi Pond for about 3 minutes every other day. So, rough guess, I've used this program for about an hour. In addition to that hour, it's a great demo to load up when people ask me: "How does the touch screen work? Can I try it?"

There are probably 2 dozen apps I've downloaded for free (and some paid) that didn't make it through more than 5 minutes of use before I erased them.

Koi Pond deserves its top spot. It's well worth the dollar.

yeah, right on with this one. People are curious how the screen works.

the app is not the best but people can have a play an dsoon discover how the screen can respond to a tap, drag and a hold.

Dumb App! I paid for it, installed it and removed it. I usually don't keep the apps on my iphone if I don't like them. Did the same with Frogger which was about 7.99 if I can remember.

Some people are frugal... you... not so much. Did you buy I Am Rich too?

I normally don't pay for apps that aren't going to be specifically useful or fun, but I did anyway because it was only $1. It was a worthwhile purchase.

And I agree, lighten up.. it's an app that can help you relax and pass the time... just like walking through a rainforest (but a tad less realistic). You guys seem so tense... might I recommend Koi Pond to calm your nerves? ;)

The fish size on the main screen is cool. However, the guppy size fish in the actual application are too small. I thought this version would provide a slider option to control the size of the fish. After all, Koi are huge fish. I shouldn't have to squint.

Bought it..enjoyed it. Considering a taco bell taco costs about the same I am happy with the purchase.

Bought it when it first came out. Have been playing minimum two hours a day ever since. Really gets intense trying to see how long I can keep a koi in the frame. This app has destroyed my social life.

Why does the iPhone simulator suck so much?! No sound support? No simulated device orientation movement controls? This couldn't possibly be an official iphone simulator that Apple provides to developers, could it?

I don't know why the simulator has no sound, that should be easy enough to support.

There is limited device orientation support - you can turn the device from side to side, but obviously can't "shake" the iPhone simulator or execute subtle movements.

Though, recent MBP models might be well suited to iPhone development, with multi-touch touchpads and SMS sensor to detect tilt.

Its 0.99 cents! I spill twice that into my change jar at night. This App is terrific for such a meager price.

it is a much cheaper alternative to getting some real pet fish while being just as much fun (which is almost none.)

Ha ha! :D

It is after all only the cost of a candy bar, and has to be one of the 10 best koi pond simulators ever made for a mobile platform.

I disagree, I think it'd be super easy to implement at least 2D control in the simulator, just make the computer mouse be a controller for the iPhone simulator's spatial input. And even 3D spatial input to the simulator is doable with a little thought.

Heck, they should just make the iPhone itself be a spatial controller for the simulator. So when your iPhone is plugged into your Mac, all the spatial orientation sensory information would be delivered to the simulator. Basically your iPhone would just be acting like a 3D mouse.

Yeah its a pretty neat app. What really ticks me off these days is people keep reviewing apps and giving them 1 star just because they aren't free. And these aren't $15 apps, they are $1 apps people are complaining about. It's not like the developer who is only getting $.70 off the transaction is charging a ridiculous sum of money But everything should be free to these people. And the sad part is I bet 99% of the people who complain about $1 don't know the first thing about developing apps themselves and don't know the hard work that goes into it.

Itunes really needs to restrict app reviews to people who actually have purchased things. Speculation is completely worthless.

This is a fantastic app (I don't own an iPhone, though). I mean, look what it shows: the iPhone is going to be huge - oh, wait, isn't it already?! ;)

Think about it: $1 is as cheap as free for the buyer. Buyers won't feel it but the developer certainly will.

Would you pay $1 for every free app you use? I sure would. Most people would not see any difference between $1 and free. Think or how much a cup of coffee or a glass of beer would cost. Convinced? :)
