I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here. You keep your phone in front of the A/C so of course it stays cool. Mine would stay cool as well if I had cold air blowing on it while driving. The point is that these phones shouldn't need a fan hitting them with cool air to stay cool while they are doing basic things like GPS and charging at the same time.
My point is: IF you mount it in a car AND the sun shines on it, of course it heats up. MY solution was mounting it in front of the airco.

Yes, because all the parameters you gave were there before. So with 15 Pro and onwards, insulation has been added, in the form of titanium. You can spin it all you want, but the Pro is less effective in dissipating heat with titanium than it was before.
While i agree that titanium is less efficient I disagree thats an insulator.
If it would be the phone would not even feel hot.

So if u are concerned about the heat you feel, its just is a sign that the heat gets out of the phone. If u slab now a case on it u make it much worse

Well, titanium is used in certain applications exactly for its insulating properties, together with it being light and strong, for example in gasturbines. It's not an insulating material like glass wool, if that's what you are comparing it to, but insulating it is, nevertheless. I don't have a Pro and never will, I don't personally see the benefit. I have a 13 mini and I'm praying the new SE will have the same form factor (probably not).

Yeah but your solution is simply admitting that the phone does have thermal issues or it wouldn’t need to be mounted in front of the air. My phone isn’t in contact with the sun and my windshield is tinted fairly dark but the phone still gets hot.

My 16 ProMax did not even get warm when it was first set up as new. Even after 60 minutes of FaceTime it does well.

You’re arguing about titanium, but the only titanium part is the sides; everything else is glass. Surely it doesn’t affect heat dissipation that much.

With that definition of you, every material is an insulator.

The question is: is more energy generated by the chip than can be radiated in most circumstances?

the titanium is just the outer 2mm shell with a core of aluminum, Apple has already minimized the effect.

And since product design is always a compromise between costs, weight, thermals, aesthetics etc. it might be worth it for Apple when they take a look on the bank account…

Well, next time around maybe we'll see an exotic hardwood as a frame?

Yes, titanium is prestigious and therefore about money, that's for sure, an engineer would've chosen aluminium.

I'm not admitting anything. I just don't have a problem with my phone heating up.
It's annoying if your phone heats up like that because heat is battery killer no. 1.
Maybe find a cooler place for your phone to mount? 😄😉

I have no issue with GPS and charging. Never had an overheat issue with any of that. Like I said previously, the only time a phone I owned had that issue was my new 16 Pro Max while backing up to the cloud and computer at the same time while in a case. It did get pretty warm. Other than that, never had an issue.

It's a non issue here. If you're not happy with your device or it's overheating too much in your opinion, visit Apple and have them run diagnostics or exchange it. If that doesn't make you happy, return it.

What's your goal with this thread?

You need to run an A/B test. Turn the phone off and mount it in the same position under the same conditions. Does it get hot? If it does, mount it in front of the air con.

You mean, your 16 Pro Max supposedly has thermal issues.

Lol yeah ok. Just like I was the only one who had thermal issues with the 15 Pro Max despite Apple saying they were trying to fix the thermal issues it had with the 16 Pro Max.

Do you think I want the phone be hot? Some of you are too much and act like I'm attacking your family or something. I'm simply saying that this phone, which is the same as everyone else's 16 Pro Max, is susceptible to thermal problems just like the 15 Pro Max is/was.

Every single time I charge in my car with carplay and GPS running I always get "charging has been put on hold until your device cools down" or whatever that message is that pops up. I don't ever remember having this with my other phones.

The only thing is that the S24 is also titanium and it never gets hot on me. I just think Apple has some major design issues with these devices.
I have the same issues. Carplay, GPS and playing music, at the same time creates heat. And my head unit likes to reboot, every so often, so that doesn't help either.

My head unit just got a software update yesterday at the dealership but I doubt that will fix any heat related issues but I'll see tonight when I go to work.

Have you tried a fresh install

I wireless CarPlay/GPS every day but haven't had issues yet. It gets warm but not hot. How long are you driving for? I'm surprised it's throttling on you if it's not exposed to the direct sun. I just had mine displaying a game on my tv through hdmi for 2 hours straight yesterday and it got quite hot but never throttled. I used an IR thermometer out of curiosity and the back of the phone was at 116F.

To report that the 16 Pro Max still has thermal issues. Thought that was pretty self explanatory.

It looks like most people have no thermal issues at all with the 16PM. Have you looked at battery use to see if some app is running constantly? Mine was a little warm for an hour or two after initial setup, but cooled down quickly and hasn't run even vaguely warm since then.

I never said it was throttling on me. I just said it gets hot and sometimes refuses to charge.

I’m not sure what you mean because several people in here have said they also notice their phone gets warm/hot.

My iPhone 15 Pro always gets too hot when I’m outside in 85° or hotter weather trying to take pictures. The screen dims and it’s just way too hot.

I’ve never had to get too hot on me using CarPlay and GPS, but I do not use wireless CarPlay nor wireless charging.

Are you using wireless CarPlay and/or wireless charging when this happens?

I was hoping the 16 Pro Max would improve the thermals but sadly it does not. Why Apple can’t make these phones not get ridiculously hot is beyond me. I also own a Galaxy S24 Ultra and it doesn’t have any of these thermal problems.

Using CarPlay plus GPS makes the phone get super hot just like it did on the 15 Pro Max. I don’t use a case so I most likely feel it more but Apple unfortunately didn’t get the thermal issues fixed like they said they did. Typing on the phone now after parking and the screen is all dimmed out because the phone got so hot. I can do the exact same things on the S24 Ultra and it stays cool as can be.

What a disappointment.
When I charged my iPhone 15 pro max with the Anker 240W 26k mah battery pack, it showed 19W charging and got pretty warm. this is with the USB-C connection not wireless. With the 16 Pro Max, using the same charger, the phone does not get hot. So I don’t see or have any thermal issues to describe at this time. The phone has been working well for me. I actually have two 16 Pro Max iPhones, they’re both consistent.

If you charged your phone and using carplay and GPS, your phone screen should turn off automatically. So why would it overheat if the screen is off?

If the screen is on, it would be on the max brightness due to daylight. This plus GPS would increase power usage and heat.
