The 20 random things you may not have known about me... thread.

1. I'm an Atheist.

2. I like the colours green, blue, orange, brown, red, and anything that's not black.
2.5 My car is black.

3. I like drinking beer almost every day.

4. I hate rednecks and anyone that acts like a "hillbilly".

5. My biggest fear is not being able to move to Japan after I graduate, which is where my girlfriend lives now.

6. My second biggest fear is doing a crap job on my PhD, and it appears as though this is happening.

i've seen this thread revived several times and not posted, but this time i'm giving in!

1. the first computer i bought myself was a g4 cube.
2. i love this site and read the community section more than the rumor stuff, but rarely post.
3. i met my fiancee 5 months ago.
4. we're getting married on saturday.
5. i start med school in a few months.
6. i'm convinced yoga will cure my insomnia, but haven't started regularly doing it.
7. i'm pretty sure the next few years are going to make the insomnia a lot worse.
8. i love to travel. one of my biggest fears for med school is not having the freedom to live abroad again for awhile.
9. i fell in love with spain when i lived there and am instantly fond of spaniards when i meet them, if nothing else than just for the accent, which i lost when i moved away.
10. i speak spanish with near-native proficiency.
11. i only buy music in vinyl format. it's gotten much more expensive since i started.
12. i'm nervous someone will give me an iphone as a wedding present and my wife will notice i'm paying more attention to the phone than her on our honeymoon. (kidding, kidding. ...kind of.)
13. every year my friends and i obsess over our top 10 albums of the year lists, which we then use dorky mathematical formulas to compile and "present" in a quasi-awards ceremony and then passionately discuss/argue the results.
14. i'm convinced my 61 reissue fender jazzmaster and original silverface fender twin reverb is the best possible tone pairing of guitar and amp ever and have finally kicked my gear acquisition syndrome after a lengthy 10 years of buying and selling and trading and upgrading. unless i could find an original digitech whammy...
15. i feel a very strong kinship with larry david. perhaps too strong.
16. arrested development, though, is my favorite tv show.
17. i feel like my left-handedness is an important part of my identity, and tend to notice other lefties and feel a connection to them, even if they're just writing down my order at a restaurant.
18. as a white middle class male, i suppose left-handedness is the closest thing i have to a minority identity. 🙂
19. when i was in high school my club soccer team was given a "sports diplomacy" pass by the US government to play a series of games in cuba. it was the first interaction of this kind between the two nations in 50 years, and we ended up on cnn for the honor.
20. i should probably be doing something to help prepare for a wedding right now...
 
This is fun.

1. I have played the drums for 8 years.
2. I am a self-taught guitarist.
3. I am in love with the sport of Ultimate Frisbee (also known as Frisbee Football).
4. I applied to the wrong university.
5. When I was in eighth grade I beat a kid up and broke his nose for calling me a 'chink.'
6. I have an overwhelming obsession with good food.
7. But I am relatively scrawny.
8. One summer last year I decided that the scrawniness had to go and I began working out at home, a completely first-time-worker-outer routine that I devised myself. I had no treadmill—I ran on the spot. I had no equipment—I used dumb bells and did sit ups, push ups and bicycle maneuvers. I ended up gaining 15 pounds of muscle mass in 8 weeks.
9. I just accidentally texted my girlfriend in Australia, thinking that we had been going out for 2 months this day, when in reality it was 3 days ago, and 3 days ago she texted me saying that it was 2 months, and I replied "I love you," and ignorantly forgot about that little incident. I'm a douche.
10. I can drink several liters of orange juice in a day.
11. I have tachycardia.
12. I have severe flat-foot that causes me back pain. I can only vacuum for a few minutes before I begin to feel like an old man.
13. I am going to the University of Toronto next year.
14. I am Canadian, but I live in Shanghai, but I am Chinese, but I can barely speak it, but I am Canadian, but I look Chinese, but more Korean than Chinese really, but I can speak even less Korean.
15. I am extremely lazy. I change my guitar strings as seldom as possible.
16. My two front teeth are fake. In third grade, I had a bike accident. While I won't go into detail, I broke my jaw and shattered my four front teeth, the front two of which were permanent. All teeth needed to be removed, but only two grew back.
17. I have only been to six countries in my entire life, the majority of which are in Asia.
18. I am only 17, but I have probably been clubbing more often than most North American college students have.
19. The show Scrubs is amazing.
20. I'm craving poutine.

I am also self-taught (and it shows). Do you play electric or acoustic?

You should see my guitar. As of right now, it sounds terrible because of the condition of the strings. You'd think I'd buy new ones seeing as how I play it almost daily. 🙄

Acoustic.

They're both excellent. I rewatch them on DVD every once in a while. Always funny, no matter how many times I've heard such-and-such joke before.
 
MR went down when I tried to post.

I think it gets easier as time goes on. It's been 6 years or so since I smoked and I don't even have the slightest craving for it. (I find it repulsive, truth be told)

21** I've always found second hand smoking repulsing... even back when I smoked myself...

But even though I've not had a single drag of a cigarette since May 1998, I still find myself missing it... I jokingly say that I'm much better now, and can go minutes without thinking about smoking... 😛

That is a slight exaggeration, though and it can actually go days between each time the craving hits, but it hits just as hard now as in the first week after I let the nicotine gum go... 😱

6) I love typing words with a " ´ " in them, such as Café or Sí
7) I was first place winner in a State Poetry Contest in 7th grade
8) Th last time I got a C in school was when I was 7.
9) I drive ride-on lawnmowers for fun
10) I have a strange fetish with carnivorous plants and modern architecture
11) I've been know to publicly declare cars/other inanimate objects "sexy"
12) My drawers are organized by color and my closet has clothes hangers evenly spaced at intervals of 2 inches
13) I do not like rap "music"
14) I don't use iChat, I think it sucks
15) I love Jesus Christ Superstar
16) I play the flute
17) I won first place in the city wide science fair from 3rd grade until 6th grade, at which point I wasn't required to do one anymore
18) I am an only child
19) I don't eat any seafood, ham, pork (I eat bacon though), or eggplant
20) I spend too much time on the computer doing stuff like this...

Here's 20 more things:

1) I work for my school, and get paid decent money to set up and plan out where crappy wintel boxes get placed. I also sorta run my school, and I'm only 17.
2) I have keys to every school in my city (population 170,000; 24K students K-12).
3) I love chocolate milk.
4) I wash cars to make extra cash.
5) I drive to random places to look at nice homes, then I imagine what the inside of the homes would look like.
6) I wash my own car up to three times a week.
7) My PowerBook is singed by Steve Woz.
8) My bedroom is blue.
9) My sheets on my bed are blue.
10) I hate the sand (at beaches and such).
11) I chew entire packs of gum in 20 minutes on a routine basis.
12) My girlfriend is the same height as me, but two years younger.
13) I laugh at pointless things.
14) I keep a journal.
15) I've been to Mount Washington in 140MPH winds.
16) I've ridden a dune buggy.
17) My last name is all to fitting considering my line of work.
18) I'm 26 in class rank, out of 340.
19) I spend at least $20 on coffee a week, if not more.
20) My most prized inanimate possessions are my Nikon D70s, 2000 Chrysler Concorde, set of drawing pencils, and my iMac G4.

19. The two best days of my life was marrying my college sweetheart and the birth of my daughter

I hesitated to post some of this stuff. Some of it's rather embarrasing. 😱

1. I used to hate Macs. 😕 (Obviously, I don't anymore 😀)
2. I have a strange form of OCD. I can get unbelievably obsessed with stuff. (Like Macs)
3. I am mildly color blind
4. I used to collect everything from lightbulbs to fire alarms 🙄
5. I was born in Nashville, TN
6. I play drums, guitar, and some keys
7. My first computer was some old Gateway running Windows 95 (smashed it)
8. I used to have (and somewhat still do) this obsession with alarms of all sort. When I was a little kid, I purposely climbed over a wall in a museum and waved my hand in front of a motion detector. 😀
9. I have a strange phobia of napkins, tissues, and paper towels. 😱
10. When I was young, I wanted to be an electrician.
11. I used to install light fixtures and switches in my basement for no reason.
12. I've been shocked by electricity countless times from sticking my finger up lightbulb sockets. (I was 2 yrs old)
13. I am a Christian
14. I have brown eyes and hair
15. I hate sports.
16. I hardly ever use phones. However, I collect them. I have around 15 cell phones, but none of them are hooked up to service.
17. I have synesthesia and perfect pitch.
18. There are certain foods I can't taste, like chicken and potatoes. I think it's linked with synesthesia.
19. I write Windoze viruses (Not any recently)
20. I love hiking, creeks, and waterfalls.
