The first camera angle and speed of the backpass was probably deceptive. Here's the reverse shot (I added in the 'line'), looks like a good call to me.

Capdevila is now on my hated player list. What a BS red card call by the ref. If anything it looked like Capdevila ran into Costa, then decided 3 seconds later to try to milk it. Capdevila should be fined by FIFA for that one.

It still would've have been too little too late I think. Spain played well, and controlled the game during the second half. They kept Ronaldo out of the picture (with a little help from the ref in a few cases).

I don't know how Spain does it, but anyone playing with only 2 forwards has almost no chance to score. Spain fills the box with defenders so fast that they outnumber the attackers by 4-1 it seems. Any team that wants to score on Spain needs to play a 3-4-3 and really go at them offensively.

I think Paraguay is going to get whacked by Spain 3-0.

Yes.

MacsRgr8 - I'll stick my neck out and say that Portugal can't win it.

Pictures of the Spanish - those earrings, and that red and yellow hair, really!

sorry, but I can't possibly find anything wrong in the red-and-yellow-hair-girl (at least form the pictures) AND she is at a football game. that's gotta be worth quite a bit of extra points.

anyways, any ref decision that needs repeated viewing and/or still images to confirm or nullify is a good decision to me.
as far as the red card, i didn't see the elbow at all, and barely saw it in the replay. but the ref seemed very much on it instantly, so maybe he saw it clearly. Still, the tarantulated rolling on the ground is vomit-inducing (applies to all divers /actors)

Okay... you win... err.. loose. :(
IMHO, Portugal could have won. Spain's goal could have been ruled offside, and your chance at the beginning of the 2nd half.... hmm... so close.

I mist admit that I wanted Spain to win, but it was by no means a walkover. Chelsea vs. Fulham.... is... (usually)

Don't panic - my comments are the sort of thing someone who did that would say; "What is she wearing!", "Just look at those shoes!" ... regardless of other factors.

MacsRgr8 - an unfit Torres was a bonus, missed him when he went off. Also, one keeper spills and gets away with it, the other saves straight back to the last person he wants to see. :( Still, Portugal faded badly re attack. Will Paraguay go for penalties?

Cheers,
OW

Statto time again: South America is well represented at this WC. Only one of their five teams has been knocked out so far - by another South American team - leaving four of them in the last eight. And Chile was the only one to have lost a game in the group stage so the remaining four have not a single loss between them so far.

On the other side of the equation 3 of their 4 upcoming SF opponents have chalked up a loss already. Only Netherlands matches them in the undefeated stakes.

It could possibly turn out to be *all* South American semi finals and final.

PS. Australia should be where Ghana are now, also with 1 defeat. That was my pre-WC realistic expectations. We should have won that Ghana game.

(ah-hem...) I think the USA should have won that game...;)

Anyways South America is becoming la puente de juventud....or in English terms the fountain of youth for soccer or football.:D

So what's new....?
South American and European sides dominate the World Cup.... been like that for ages. Sometimes a team or two from other continents surprise us.
