Why did the chicken cross the road?

According to FIFA, it didn't. And you can't use video evidence to prove it did. :D

Another Germany / Netherlands Final then! :D

What the world has never experienced before though is their respective SF final opponents in an Argentina / Brazil Final. Statistically 0% chance of that. ;)

a netherlands-germany final though would be comical for the bayern münchen players from both teams.. how many are in those 2 teams ? 9 ?

just too great...

Okay, if Spain scores today it will be the first goal conceded by Portugal in six months. Can they do it? Drum roll please...dum dum dum dum dum...

Despite their attacking players and display against Nth Korea, Portugal's game is defence. So this could end 0-0 like their two other group games and we'll see penalties for a second time... and Ronaldo miss... ;)

very interesting stat.
i still like spain for this game, but strong defense and one-two great attacking players is what wins championships in most cases.
we shall see.

in any case they play for a semi-final spot. i don't see paraguay having any chance against either of the two.

on the other hand brazil-netherlands should be an unpredictable cracker of a game

At least two Dutch: Robben and van Bommel.
Germans: Müller, Schweinstiger, Butt, Badstuber, Lahm, Klose, Gomez...

Hmm...

EDIT.. like France v England of old... many Arsenal players...

Portugal better defence, Spain the attack; who will triumph in what one Spanish commentator sees as Fulham v Chelsea?

Eh..? I don't get that analogy..
Spain is much more interesting than Chelsea. And Portugal has more chance than Fulham against a Chelsea...
Or am I a bit thick... (or taking it too seriously... :p)

EDIT: unusual that a referee lets a player challenge a goalie like that...

EDIT 2: "Doing a Johnnie Wilkinson" (BBC commentator's remark)... if so, then Ronaldo might think he has to lift it over the crossbar... :p

This is a finely balanced match. Good attack stifled by equally good defence by both sides. The result could turn on the first team to make a mistake, like almost just before the break but the Portuguese defence recovered well. Which team will crack first!

A 'smaller' team that has a rivalry with a 'bigger' team, but the bigger team views the smaller as being a bit insignificant and not a true rival?

You think? Do Spain not view Portugal as a rival...?

Back to Fulham vs Chelsea. Yes, I know Fulham fans see Chelsea as their main rival (I heard Fulham supporters sing "Stand up if you hate Chelsea.." few months back at the Emirates), and presumably newer Chelsea fans have forgotten their rivalry with Fulham because of the difference in cash.... (let me be nice :p)

But, this is more Chelsea vs Tottenham if you want to stick to London clubs...
(yes, I carefully don't mention us Gunners..!).
Tottenham can win.... So can Portugal.

If Spain see Portugal as a somewhat less significant rival... that could be a huge mistake.

Anyway... they would know now after 45 mins of good defending, eh?

EDIT: I like the ref! Not being fooled by theatricals... :)

EDIT 2: Hmm.. Torres off.... Portugal will be pleased.

EDIT 3: Eh... nope. Portugal will NOT be pleased.... 1-0!!

Trailing right foot onside.

Memo from Portuguese keeper to self: "Must not parry ball straight back to Spanish player."

Is that pic exactly timed..?
Or did the ball leave the foot just 1/100th of a second before...

EDIT: There was an elbow.... the first replay started too late.

ok then. I didn't see the elbow.

as far as the offside, in any case it was very close, so either call would be legit in my view. i was just pointing that technically, it was offside (from that picture)

edit: @awmazz. no, the current interpretation is that it is not the whole body that has to be across the ball

edit2: in any case: congratulations to spain, really nice team. shouldn't have any problem with paraguay.

Still very underwhelmed with Spain...they get frustrated after the first 20 min fury they unleash...sure they pass beautifully but i prefer much more the vertical passing of Ozil, Muller, Schweinsteiger...

Villa is all they have at the moment...

it was off side IMHO but factoring in that the linesmen might not have seen the final reverse touch and the speed at with the action happened i would say it's a much more tolarable 'fault' than what happened in the argentina game

to be offside one body part which can score a goal legaly (legs/head) has to be over 'the line'.. hands and arms don't count ;)
with his mighty step forward thus i would say villa was offside

but i have to say: why didn't play llorente earlier ? .. clearly he is in way better shape than Fernando Torres... who on german television already got nicknamed "Fernando Torlos" (tor-los = 'without goal')

also i don't understand substituing the hard working Hugo Almeida out on the Portugal side ... after he left portugal couldn't create a single chance up front and also lost every single header

in my opinion those 2 subs chanced the game in spains favors
