The whole issue with Scottish football is too many bodies pulling in different directions - SPL, SFL, SFA not to mention amateur. We need one coherent body. But turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

That's it exactly. They will only survive if they work closely together. But none seem interested in that.

Well done to Italy tonight, great game. Germany disappointing, Italians had a proper spirit. There seems to be a curse on the team playing in white.;)

Maybe the Scottish can see some knock on effect from the success of the team playing in blue. ;)

in their words especially, watching the interviews seems like history repeating itself, the same things were said two years ago, when they lost to Spain. How much more experience does this team need to make to finally win something?
In the end this team doesn't really want to win, when push comes to shove. 15 wins in qualifying games and friendlies don't mean a thing, when you lose in the deciding games. That's what sets Germany apart from teams like Spain and Italy. Schweinsteiger only played because he is the 'verbal' leader, during the tournament Khedira totally showed him up. I hope Italy will now go for this, they seem to come out strong with all the mess that is going on in italian football. Again history (hopefully) repeats itself again.

I don't think many people understand that motivations and heart are the first 2 things you gonna need to win in soccer, then a little bit of luck and strategy.
You said history repeating itself, and I hope so, obviously since I'm Italian I want nothing more, and I'm seeing the same will that I saw 6 years ago "we are not just scandals".

This team might not be the strongest, might not even be the best, but it's definitely one of the smartest, and with Spain that's the first thing you gonna need.

Well today is the Final.

Spain Vs Italy (well I got one of the finalists right)

I'm still going for a Spanish win, it's just that I'm not so sure as I was before.

But I am hoping for a really spectacular match, in which the individual skills of the players is fully seen.

I'm going to stick with my prediction of a Spanish win as well. But I think it should be a good match. It's a huge shame that the euros are going to end! Fortunately I still have MLS...

Columbus 2-0 Salt Lake

Good win for the Crew, probably the best performance I've seen in a while. We still have scoring problems, but Salt Lake's defending was terrible. I'll take the three points. We are now 6-5-4, midtable in the combined standings.

RSL just doesnt seem to be the power house they have been in the past. Dont know what their issue is but the past couple weeks they have looked poor over all.

Happy the Fire won Friday night, they have seemed to turn it around the past couple weeks, plus they were able to re-sign Grazzini this week as well.

Spain is going with the 4-6-0, Italy with the diamond. No big surprises here. Now, will either team do something surprising or will it be a cagey opening?

Might as well put everybody in the middle, they don't need forwards, anybody can score on that team.

That was a cross-header combo between two of the shorter players on the field. :D

1-0 Spain, and now we have our early goal. Spain have had the edge in play but Italy are very active and definitely look good for a goal to me.

EDIT:
ALL of ESPN's channels just blacked out for me over the last two minutes. What the hell happened? No studio feed, nothing.

EDIT2: TV back, after 5 minutes of blackness, thank goodness nobody scored.

My brother is in the DC area - no power, everyone is panic-buying at the gas stations, it's 100 degrees...but he found a Mexican restaurant with power and is watching the game. No worries about heat for me in Alaska!

Condolences on Mark Lawrenson, Jaffa. But no Adrian Chiles at least, right?

Spain are playing a more patient game now, diddling around a bit in the final third. They need a second (goal in my opinion) if they are going to win this though.

You're lucky – no blackout here but we've got Mark Lawrenson commentating.

I don't know who that is, but he can't be worse than the German commentators....
I wonder, if Fabregas/Balotelli will score tonight, if not Germany might win one title:cool:
edit:Jordi Alba scores, so far it doesn't look like Cesc wants to win the golden shoe

I think that might be game over. The Spanish have been ruthless and efficient. They did their homework and have pocketed Pirlo which is half the battle. They also stepped up their passing game big time.

Here the final is being shown live on two channels – BBC and ITV. I can't seriously believe anyone would watch the latter, given the choice.

The BBC has a 'red button' option to change the commentary, our alternative choice are a couple of children's TV presenters. I'm seriously considering it for the second half.

I'm not expecting anything anymore, this Spanish team is worthy to be called the greatest of all time.
They are unique, the defend together they attack together, it's so hard to score against them.
All I care now is that we don't embarrass ourselves with a big loss now, I don't believe we can come back, not against this monsters.
Still proud the way Italy played this tournament, no one expected us to even pass the group stage let alone go all the way to the finals.

We are watching history being made, Spain are truly a class apart.:D

But with Italy you never know. Second half just starting.

Italy went very close there. I still think they will score before the end...they are playing well and are being beaten only because they are facing one of the best sides ever to play the game.

I think that penalty shout against Italy could have been given but I'm glad it was not.

We have Ian Darke & Steve McManaman; Darke is great, McManaman is OK.

EDIT:
Horrible luck for Italy, another forced substitution-but is out of subs. Italy down to 10 men.

Just hasn't been Azzurri's day. They look out of it mentally and physically.

EDIT: ...and El Niño does his trademark icing of the cake. Game now truly over.

EDIT2: Haha Mata adds sprinkles.

That Torres goal was a lot like his 2008 winner. And a wonderful little pass to Mata for the 4th goal.

The 4-0 scoreline is really unfair on Italy; they've played well but have been super unlucky with injuries and are just tired out now after playing a man down.

Spain want to run up the score though, to prove the doubters wrong with their claims of Spain being 'boring'. I can't blame them for that.
