Spain could take this very team to the 2014 World Cup; they will all be old, but on paper it looks like this dynasty could yet produce more trophies.

I think it's great that even in triumph the spanish remember the deceased for all to take notice. Not sure, if many nations (would) do that.

Highlights tonight; no Lawrenson and Motta's best performance this tournament - stopped watching after that. Italy didn't have the energy from the get-go. :( The semi-finals were good though.

Shame about Portugal, they confirmed how to play Spain - happy to say the latter will not win in 2014.

Cheers,
OW

meanwhile with fernando torres claiming the goal scorer crown at the tournament (thanks to the limited amount of minutes on the field) he somehow set a new record for somebody else ;) :

Mario Gomez:
2nd place in the german Bundesliga
2nd place in the german cup
2nd place in the Championsleague
2nd best goal scorer in the Bundesliga
2nd best goal scorer in the Championsleague
2nd best goal scorer EURO 2012

at least he dodged the bullet by not making it past the semi finals :D

Excellent.

Anytime balotelli has a bad day it's a good day for me. Commentators are all over the place on Torres. He did well with the limited game time. What else do you wnt?

This team made history the first team to win three major championships in succession.

They will go into the history books as the true Golden Generation.

Last night they showed the world how beautiful the 'Beautiful Game' is, and for that I say Gracias.

So, Stuart Pearce' explaination for not picking Beckham is for footballing reasons

Que the tweetfest of several 'sources close to Beckham' claiming it was a racially motivated decision  and not the fact he's simply 'past it' ;)

RSL just doesnt seem to be the power house they have been in the past. Dont know what their issue is but the past couple weeks they have looked poor over all.

Happy the Fire won Friday night, they have seemed to turn it around the past couple weeks, plus they were able to re-sign Grazzini this week as well.

(I complely missed this post in the flurry of the Spain-Italy final)

I'm not sure what is wrong with RSL either, but their defending was afwul. Our attacks resulted in a couple good team goals, but against a more alert defense we might have struggled to score. RSL's back line just stood around ball-watching.

I can't share your joy in Chicago winning. I never like to see the Fire win. At least we beat them when they came to Columbus. They are definitely improving over last season though.

It is an interesting managerial swap. 'Arry is a man-manager and motivational figure who by his own admission eschews tactical tinkering in favor of simply sending out his 11 best players and telling them to go score goals. AVB is much more cerebral and not as chummy.
