"bratwurst"

as in 'currywurst', which bears the thought of Union Berlin possibly gracing the world with a draw against Braunschweig in this very moment....would save Hertha the first seat in the train which leads to the promised land where clubs are playing for real Champ. League tickets.

How's Hull doing so far?

NEWSFLASH - EDIT: Braunschweig 0 - 1 Union (4th min) Yesss! :D

We're fourth in the table, playing some nice football and generally being ace. Our shirt sponsor's still awful, though.

Cheers, mate good to hear! Does fourth rank means already relegation (you have that?)? Sorry, hearing about your shirts, although one could argue that it's your own fault, since you're such a good kit designer yourself. No, just joking, never really understand what keeps all these manufacturers away from making at least some decent shirts.

Whatwhatwhat FantasyFootball? What are saying again? I wanna know, too! I wanna know, too!
At the moment, one of the Unions is proposing a strike on the London Underground over the festive period, including Boxing Day when a number of matches are scheduled to played in the capital. This could potentially lead to some of these matches being postponed.

Three Premier League matches are scheduled to be played in London on that day – QPR have said that their match against West Brom will go ahead as planned, but Arsenal v West Ham and Fulham v Southampton could be affected. Obviously, if a game is postponed and you have players from the teams involved, they'll score 0 points for the week so it's worth keeping an eye on how this unfolds.

No, in the Championship the top two teams are promoted to the Premier League, teams who finish third-sixth contest a play-off, the winner of which also wins promotion. So we're rather handily placed at the moment.

Adidas are our current polyester rag suppliers, their offerings have been something of a disappointment unfortunately. Generally the away shirts have been far better than the home ones, but the sponsor for the past two seasons has been a rather grubby little company who a lot of people don't like seeing on the shirt.

This deal – with Cash Converters – was for two years with the option of a third, the two years will be up at the end of the season so we'll see if a new sponsor is found. I think our kit deal with Adidas is also up at the end of the season, so potentially we could have a new kit maker too. Time will tell.

I wonder if promotion could have a hand in things - if you go up I imagine your options for sponsorship increase.

I've kept an eye on the Tigers as usual and you're definitely having a good season Good to see Koren maintaining his form....but if you're not careful you could get relegated to the Premier League. ;)

Re: Turner. I remember him being quite the hot commodity for awhile there. Some big numbers were being talked about as possible transfer fees. Maybe they were a little optimistic at the time, but 3 million sounds like less than he was worth when you sold him.

Indeed, but timings usually demand that a new deal would have to be in place in advance of us knowing if we're going up or not. Mind, that said the Cash Converters deal was signed very late in the day – so late that last season's replica home shirts were delivered sans sponsor, and had to be printed up with the offending logo by the club shop. That's the key reason why we ended up with that nasty big black patch on the shirt, it was cheaper and easier to apply that way.

His value was naturally talked up, and we did get a bit more than £3m for him – but a hefty chunk of it was owed in sell on clauses to his previous clubs and I think we only pocketed £2.8m in the end. The then chairman publicly made out we got more though, which nearly caused bother when said former clubs (quite fairly) put a complaint into the FA because they thought we were trying to short change them...

Bad decision on Fellaini, I'm guessing he'll get at least 4+ games for it. I wonder if Barkley will be used during his suspension.

3 game ban, very generous on the FA to be so lenient on Felli. Interesting to see who Moyes will plug in for those 3 matches, Barkley for sure one game but don't know if Moyes will have faith in him for all 3.

Good point about the timing. Then again, potential sponsors can see that Hull City are at least a solid candidate for the playoffs, which in itself raises the club's value in the eyes of potential sponsors.

To put that into perspective, Columbus reportedly broke their own transfer fee record when they signed Frederico Higuain during this past season. MLS was tightlipped about contract terms (though not, obviously, about salary numbers since those are publicly released), but the transfer fee was believed to have been around $650,000. His guaranteed salary for 2012 was $324,000 (for the season, not per week!). That makes him MLS's 23rd-highest payed player.

It's hard to make a 1:1 comparison because the two leagues are run very differently (and MLS roster rules are pretty byzantine), but it's pretty obvious that MLS is still a ways off the Championship in terms of the average transfer fees paid. On the other hand, MLS clubs arguably get more for their money and avoid some of the inflation of the transfer market in England especially and Europe in general.

I could very well have been more. You have to think that a player like Joey Barton or Mario Balotelli would not have gotten away with just a 3 match ban.

Sheffield Wednesday have certainly missed him!

I think they went easy since both Fellaini and Everton came right out and admitted it said they wouldn't fight it and he doesn't have a history of constant problems on the field. That or the FA is just terrible at handing out suspensions.

I wish Everton would of continued the loan to Sheffield. Barkley needs more play time to get better and it seemed to be helping.

You mean the on field tussle they had isn't as serious as racially abusing someone?

So do I! He was certainly putting some drive into our midfield, and the run of 7 straight defeats until last Saturday tells its own story!

He certainly looks a decent prospect, if he can get the games

It apparently wasn't as serious as racial abuse according to the FA, although ill admit it was pure thuggery on Fellainis part and should of garnered a longer suspension. I think the reason for longer suspensions on racial abuse from the FA is merely trying to send the rest of the world a "we have a hard stance on racism" but they (FA) don't really believe their own preaching.

Back to Barkley if he could of stayed a full season at Sheffield I truly believe it would of given him the experience to be a full time starter at Everton next season. He seemed to be putting in some good work at Sheffield and it seemed that Sheffield was playing some good football around him.

In other news my MLS side has sent 2 of their starters over to Europe to train with Athletico Madrid and sending goalkeeper Sean Johnson to train with Stoke and then Everton. I think Johnson might be working to get his foot in the door to replace Howard down the road which I'm 50/50 on.

Tito Vilanova has had a relapse of his cancer. No word on how big it will effect Barca since they probably don't know themselves. He has to undergo surgery for it though, so here's hoping all works out well.

I wonder if Guardiola might reappear at some point if they need someone to fill in?

Re: Sturridge. I think he's the right type of player for Liverpool on paper...it remains to be seen how well he'd fit in our system but he has the tools. There is less value in the market in January though, and I haven;t seen any numbers tossed around so I don't know what Chelsea will want for him - or how much FSG are budgeting.

Meanwhile, a number of bookies have today drastically slashed the odds of Swansea signing David Villa in January. They're making the south Wales club clear favourites for his signature.

Gutted. Villa available and we're signing the modern day equivalent of Andy Cole without the goals of course

Hmm.

Am I missing something? Are there two strikers named David Villa?
