It looks like you guys, right now, are the team most expect to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. If it were held today you would face the Chiefs or Broncos and that would be a great, and close game. I think you could take the Broncos but not the Chiefs who are the most complete player for player team in the NFL who can miss a star but still win as big.

You mean the Chiefs that the Broncos just dominated 27-17?

That was classic, but overall the Chiefs are the ones that keep me up at night. this loss may be their only one and it won't surprise me if they get home field advantage.

The Broncos, to me, are the second best team in the AFC, but teetering on disaster since there is nobody healthy or experienced to cover Manning's blind side. This is football and it's only a matter of time. Had it been a 23 year old Peyton Manning, I wouldn't be as frightened but older QBs don't fare well traditionally when cheap shotted from the blind side. It's the single most vulnerable place in the NFL and what took down previously great, and strong guys like Aikman and our Steve Young. I think they even made a movie about this.

Do you know how this bugs me being a Niner's fan? We stupidly, against the sentiment of the fans got rid of Alex Smith! Yes, we were happy to see the Broncos spank the Chiefs here in the Bay Area, but we also know who the heck Alex Smith is. Unless that guy gets injured, and a few other Chiefs players, they are going to haunt everybody in the NFL.

We don't hate any team, like we did the Cowboys in the 90s era, but I think the Chiefs are a team we are hoping and praying for each week to falter. Nobody wants to see the guy who got away do so well. We also blew it in baseball when we ditched our star closer (the beard Brian Wilson) and saw the hapless Dodgers go all the way to the NLCS while the Giants looked like the worst former World Series team in a terrible followup year.

I certainly don't want to be the region known for giving up superstars.

I know you guys shut down elite quarterbacks with regularity, but how are you at stopping the run, and the run on third downs? I don't follow closely enough to know but stopping the run, too can be the difference between a Super Bowl win and maybe getting knocked out in first round of playoffs.

For the semi-casual avid football fan, the TeamRankings site has quite the compendium of stats. It looks like Seattle is a little below the middle of the pack at stopping the run. It looks like SF is just ahead of Seattle in the Yards-per-Point differential, which I think is one of the most telling statistics.

Oh, and the Mariners? I have prettymuch given up on them, not really being inclined to spend hours yawning at Cricket in the first place. They had Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez and Randy Johnson on a team managed by Lou Piniella and they could not make it to the big show. They won 112 games in '01 failed badly in the first round of the playoffs. They are just a bad luck team that will always be an also-ran, a sort of big-league farm team for the bigger big-league teams.

Thanks for the link. It's when you play us we seem like a high school team that can't pass or run.

My team is dead last on passing yards per game but still has a good record. I wonder where Niners would be if passing game was only slightly better? It's not last year, but we still have hope of being the team we are when we win now, and especially in 2012.

Like some say, it's possibly the curse of a QB's sophomore year.

Russel Wilson doesn't appear to be suffering from that QB curse.

Every time I've watched that guy he seems to find some way to get the ball upfield. With a couple of exceptions which happened when the Seahawks All-Pro linemen were injured. Now their back.

That flip toss Wilson did to Marshawn Lynch last week sold me on his intelligence. He does seem to overcome his 5'10 1/2" height.

While I'm not directly comparing Wilson to Peyton Manning I would say he is as smart if not smarter on the field than Manning. That means a lot for a QB and the team.

He's one win away from trying best two year win record. He's totally in command and probably has a great career ahead of him already tying Manning in a first year record so there's no bad start here. Wilson has the goods and all I could say is that it sucks that this surgeon is facing against me in my division:

Did ya have to show that GB interception ?

Not the best way to start the video, but the other stuff shows the great passing of Wilson. I wish he was on my team.

If there was any doubt about Wilson's second year not being there, too he has shut up those critics. He's here to stay and probably as long a pain for SF. Who throws into coverage like that?

Tom Brady is the best quarterback in the universe. :D

And I didn't miss Welker so much tonight. Great game. Glad the Patriots came out on the winning end of it. You're welcome, Kansas City.

What an unbelievable football game. Instant classic.

Turns out the talk of the Patriots demise has been greatly exaggerated. :D:p

P. Manning 19/36, 150 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 70.4
T. Brady 34/50, 344 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT, 107.4

Those games are a lot of fun to watch – when I do not care about who wins. When it is my team on the razor's edge, well, one of these days it will make me pop-&-drop.

In hindsight, going to bed in the 3rd quarter last night was not the best decision.

Kansas totally needed this one!

I knew Kansas was better than how they played against the Broncos and this game showed us all that Peyton isn't invincible. He went out strong early but really no more than any lucky rookie could, but his age really showed after halftime. He was flat footed and couldn't move. His velocity was deflated after the half. It was basically an old Peyton Manning and it showed. So it's anybody's season in the AFC. My guess is that ESPN power rankings will put NE above DEN and as the best team in the AFC. For AFC side it will be NE, then DEN, and then KC.

If Brady can make this a habit through postseason he will definitely win one more Super Bowl and get that curse off his back. Just like people said Ray Lewis would never see another ring and he showed them it's never too late, Brady can do that, too and walk off into sunset in that manner. Also John Elway seemed to have been cursed for many years but then turned it around and made an already great career topped off with the SB win as his very last game which is the best way to do it. He could have gone a couple of more the way he was playing but he was glad to shut up critics and get that multiple Super Bowl loser monkey off his back. I know Elway didn't want to join the ranks as one who left the sport with two or more Super Bowl losses on his stats as the main thing he's remembered for.

With Brady what would get him into the same place as 2004 season Super Bowl win and multiple SB winner instead of multiple Super Bowl loser tag and make everyone forget about 2007 and 2011 would not only be a SB win this year but (ideally) against the New York Giants and Eli Manning which is unlikely on the Giants side of the equation. A Super Bowl win this season would be Brady's 4th and put him up there with Montana and Bradshaw and it would virtually be as if he went 4 for 4 in Super Bowl wins. With all that he has done people won't remember those two losses. Just like Babe Ruth struck out too much all his home runs erased that memory. I think Brady is on a mission to erase any bad memories of the past near full decade and be that "guy who won four Super Bowls". While his stats show it overall, he can really have the moniker as best ever in football just like a Babe Ruth was best baseball player or Michael Jordan the best basketball player. Before it's over, I predict he will have that 4th ring and be in the 50,000 club easily making him the best ever.

I'd slow down on that one. I'm a Patriots fan and I don't think they deserve the #1 spot. Consistency has been a problem, but hopefully with the offense back and healthy things will continue to improve. Losing our top 2 defensive players for the year just isn't something you easily overcome. So I'm happy, but bullish.

Come on, this is asinine. How on earth does Brady have a "curse"? Because he has 3 Super Bowls instead of 5? If that's the case, then most of the QBs to play the game are cursed. The SB is very, very hard to win in case anyone forgets it. Marino never won one, do we doubt he's one of the best to ever play? The team around you matters a LOT. Tom Brady is better now than he was in 2001.

Sorry but this just makes no sense at all.

Why do we need to "forget" the fact that the Patriots didn't win the Super Bowls in 2007 and 2011? They still won the conference championship both years and were better than 30 other teams. How does Asante Samuel's ability to catch a game-clinching interception change what Brady did at all? Hell, Montana lost three conference championships in addition to the 4 times he won and went to the Super Bowl. Does this give him the "conference championship loser tag"?

All but like 5 teams in the league would kill to be the "Super Bowl loser". The vast majority of guys in the league go their entire careers without even playing in the big game once. It still means you had a better season than every team in your conference and all but one other team in the league. The fact of the matter is no team is going to win everything every time. I just don't see how getting that far, even if you couldn't come down with the ultimate prize, could be considered a negative. Obviously you want to win every time but in a team sport where there's 90 guys in every game who have an effect on the outcome, you can't win every time. It doesn't mean you didn't have a successful year though.

I mean, you seriously think that Brady's legacy now is worse than it was in 2005 after he had won 3 super bowls in 4 years? He's only added 2 more conference championships, division wins EVERY year he's been the starter except 2002, two MVP awards, and countless individual and team records since then. And let's not forget the stat I like the most: Brady is the ONLY quarterback in NFL history to be more than 100 games over .500 at any point in his career.
