I think both teams won the deal. Stars gained a lot putting their best player back to his natural position and getting a young star and Boston gained a heck of a player.

Agreed. It's definitely a good deal for both teams. I think it's funny that there's a portion of Bruins fans that hate the trade... although it's no coincidence that they're usually the fans that don't know much about the sport outside of their home team.

Seguin's got a ton of skill but it just never really clicked here. He doesn't have the right skill set to be a winger, especially in Boston which places high emphasis on board battles and puck possession, and clearly the Bruins are set with Bergeron and Krejci for top line centers. I think the switch back to center will help him utilize his skill set better, and he'll be great playing with Benn.

You guys are really going to like Peverley too. He had a down year, but he's a solid player. He was hugely clutch during our cup run in 2011. He's extremely versatile, can play on all 4 lines at center or wing, great at faceoffs, and will bring some veteran championship experience to your Stars.

I gotta say I'm super pumped to see Eriksson in the spoked B. I haven't seen him play a ton, but from what I have seen and what I've heard, the way he plays he was pretty much born to be a Bruin. He's going to fit in here perfectly. Marchand-Bergeron-Seguin was one of the top lines in the league the past 2 years, but switch out Seguin for Eriksson, and wow.. that's going to be fun to watch. They'll definitely be the best two-way line in the league.

Man, this season needs to start already!!

I'd be interested.

I wanted to make it much sooner as well, but I also wanted to fill up all the team spots. :p

If you click on "My Team", you can then click on "Edit Team Settings" if you'd like to change the name of your team. :]

Looking forward to beating you all! :D:D

As far as I know, that day/time works for me. Left my team name as a dumb name identifying myself. I need some time to think up a good fantasy team name for this year. ;)

Thoughts on the Crawford extention?

6 years, $6 million per year. I personally feel like he's way over paid, and that he's not worth more than $4 million. He has an amazing group in front of him, and that group is what's making him seem like a $6 million dollar goalie. I'd like to see him in front of a group that leaves their goalie out to dry, like the Leafs.

My predictions: (No particular order)

Eastern Conference
Metropolitan: ...
Atlantic: ...

Western Conference
Central: ...
Pacific: ...

Crap. It's been too long of a summer without hockey. I really need to catch up with what's going on.

I don't think he's worth 6 either, at least not yet. I think Crawford gets this much for a few reasons that just came together for him. 1. The Hawks org loves him 2. They let Niemi go and now he's amazing 3. He won the cup and is invited to team Canada with a shot to make it. It's like the Hawks are saying their chances for another cup run are good enough with Crawford in net and would rather not risk it going after someone else +/- 2 mill who may not fit in.

Puzzling considering he has another year on his contract. Hopefully he can continue his recent success into the next season.

$6 million per is the going rate for a good starting goalie now. The guy just won the Cup after all. If he can keep up his play from the playoffs, he'll be worth it. If he was on the open market, he would have gotten even more.

Same goes for Rask and the deal he signed earlier this summer.

It's somewhat of a gamble. If he has a bad year, it's not the best deal and the Hawks could have gotten him cheaper after the season. But, if he has a monster year, that deal will look like a steal come this time next year. If they would have waited and he did have that monster year, you'd have a guy who had just won a cup and had a better year the next year.. that would be $7+ million easily.

I just don't see Crawford as an elite goalie in the league. His play actually makes me nervous, and he looks awkward in the net at times. The argument can easily be made that if Emery didn't get hurt, he would have been the starter in the playoffs. His numbers were superb. Any mediocre goalie would have won the cup this year in Chicago. The team was just too good.

He is a good goalie, but he's not worth $6 million a year. (At least not at this point in his career) If he went to free agency and ended up on a sub-par team, he would have struggled.

Couldn't agree more!

Photo of Toews leaked in what looks like a pretty laughably bad Team Canada jersey.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/team-canada-olympic-jersey-photo-010748899--nhl.html

Looks like fake shiny maple leafs where the Americans had stupid stars. Fake laces. So much red.

I actually don't mind the main stripe/maple leaf if there was some color to the jersey.

I can safely say that I'm not buying a jersey this year...

It does seem like all teams have one common ground... They all are wearing awful jerseys. I'd be embarrassed if I were Nike.

When the Hawks signed Bickell I thought they were spending too much money on him as well. I spent some time in Rockford watching the Ice Hogs play when Bryan was on their team in 2010 and saw quite a bit of drive in his game. After watching his performance in the 2012 regular season I was not sure how management would find a way to sign him. His performance in the playoffs was spectacular! I think the Hawks got a deal on Bickell and he will continue to make plays and really get in the heads of other teams from his size and presence on the ice.

I think that the Hawks spent so much money on Crawford because they noticed what happened to Niemi.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the new NHL season. I am thinking of spending the money for an NHL account so I can watch all of the games on the AppleTV when I want. GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Need some more people to sign up for the hockey pool! Link is in the original post. It will be fun!

Hockey pool bump! Are we making it interesting with a small wager or is that not allowed?

I'm not sure if that's allowed on here. We'll just do it for bragging rights to avoid any issues.

We have enough people to begin the pool, but I hope we can get at least two more to join.

Training camps are officially open!! IT'S HOCKEY SEASON!

I'm excited!

Also got this in the mail today... Perfect timing.
