If Luis Suarez had scratched Jan Vertonghen, he would have been hung, drawn and quartered. Interesting that Torres escaped further punishment.

A draw in the Ukraine is not a bad result for Man Utd. City probably would have drawn as well if it wasn't for Hart. So, despite my inclinations, one can't get too excited over the Mancunians' stumbles.

Went not to lose, didn't lose; creativity left on the bench, so nick it or draw. The caution is understandable given the situation and similar seen in previous seasons. The defence was given a good workout and the communication was better. Fellaini was very poor, but GBP 3m less than Fernandinho :).

Fantasy - Rooney's shin should be okay to play v Sunderland.

takao,

To me the money, domestic position, and win against Dortmund created a myth, exposed by Arsenal. On the domestic front, 5 of the 6 games have been against teams in the bottom 8 (4 in bottom 6, 3 in bottom 4), the other against AC Milan - 9th. Of course they can only play per the fixtures and it isn't impossible they find hits, but if I was betting, it would be Dortmund and Arsenal.

Cheers,
OW

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben: "The first 70 minutes we played some terrific football. We were so dominant against a big team in Europe. We didn't expect an easy game like that.

City, a big team in Europe? I suppose he means they're a big team (lots of players) and also play in Europe? :p

As for Hart, I saw on the BBC text commentary someone had texted in to say based on form, Hart should be dropped for England and 'Fortser' given a start. Now presuming he means Foster, I replied, pointing out Foster hadn't made a save for 6 games, so how can he be on form? ;)

Sadly, the BBC didn't publish it :(

I was honestly surprised yesterday, seems a bit like City got coached-out by Pep.

... but if I was betting, it would be Dortmund and Arsenal.

First of all, I agree with what you wrote but the whole argument started by LordBlackadder asking if Dortmund's season looks shaky now. Which offended me  ;)
I would be surprised if anybody here would bet on Napoli making 1st or 2nd place this group. Nevertheless I'm still surprised to hear such harsh statements based on one single game. Guess you weren't burnt by Italians that often before (never underestimate them , never write them off!). Last year against BMunich, they all looked like pupils, Juve and Napoli. But almost everybody did, except second leg against Arsenal and Dortmund in the final.

Well from a neutrals point of view, I really enjoyed the Manchester City Bayern München match.:)

Interested in Juventus, Pogba and Vidal in particular. On meetings with Italian clubs; I remember Boniek helping Juventus knock Manchester United out of the Cup Winners Cup, battles with Lippi, and gifting Fiorentina two goals - one to Batistuta. Add a bout of shingles brought on by the stress of the second leg v Inter Milan in 1999.

Fizzoid; Fraser Forster of Celtic?

Two years ago, the press were declaring that Joe Hart was the Best Goalkeeper In The World™. Now they regard him as a liability who risks being dropped.

Yep.

He was making mistakes and wasting the ball then, it's just the media were having fun giving De Gea a kicking. Being a young England player tends to give you a period of protection, then they turn.

Always thought he was flaky. Will Hodgson give him the brush-off?

Cheers,

Woy has added Forster to his squad.

EDIT: Zanuzaj looks a gem

The new SAS scoops three points for the 'Pool. I remain quite skeptical of any talk of top four finishes, but Liverpool certainly looks improved over last season.

EDIT: Zanuzaj looks a gem

He has great potential, but the odds are against him. For every Ryan Giggs there are ten thousand Bebes. Hopefylly (for Man Utd), he is one of the former.

Damn West Brom ;)

Good game, toughest game we've played thus far. I'll take the point considering the opposition and the fact that we aren't at full strength.

I expect Januzaj to leave Utd eventually. Giggs to fill in once that happens at 45...tearing hamstrings apart. :)

Well the Eredivisie has a new leader.

FC Twente edges out PSV via a better goal difference. Ajax move into third place, with Feyenoord in fourth.

PEC again could not score so drop down to the 6th place, but only 3 points seperate them from the top.

AZ since they dimissed their trainer have not won any match either in the Europe league or the Eredivisie. I would imagine that Gertjan Verbeek is having a big laugh right now.:D

Right at the bottom NEC 4 points from 9 games leaves them 14 points behind.

How have we made it to October without me posting here?

Those who follow me on Twitter (I don't recommend it) will know I'm spending an increasing amount of time at the new Love Street, home of St Mirren as my boys are regulars there. They get 1 hour football training in the St Mirren blow up training ground (seriously, it's like an upturned bouncy castle in the car park) followed by entry into the game for £5. Great way to encourage the kids.

It's great following a diddy team as there's no expectation of success, any win is a nice surprise.

Lucky he didn't win any awards, he might have dropped and broken it.

@CoxOrange: :p :D

Yes, I saw that and was thinking of you, but did not have the time to come by macrumors, recently. Well, it looks really good for Hertha a while now. Guess this could be a trend.

Hm, can't really predict, if Mainz will make it up again on the table. (Well, I do not have a clear picture, which teams are left for Mainz to play against and if there are any shooting gallery teams under them, so that we at least get a few points more.)

Meanwhile, in south Wales, Cardiff City's Head of Recruitment Iain Moody has had his chair kicked. His bizarre replacement is a 23-year old kid with no prior football experience, who will now have responsibility for overseeing Cardiff's January transfer dealings. He's also - by a quite remarkable coincidence - bezzie mates with owner Vincent Tan's son.

You couldn't make it up.

Bitter much Harry?

While I do agree with Harry's claim that "English football was being run by people who really haven't got a clue" I'm not exactly sure Harry would have been the best man for the job...

Interested to hear opinions on the Jack Wilshire comments on England eligibility?

Speaking as an American, I'm fine with any citizen of this country playing for us - regardless of whether they were born here, play here or live here. But we are largely a nation of immigrants. Obviously the culture is different in much of Europe. But pretty much every top international team has at least one or two members with recent immigrant ancestry.

Meanwhile, in south Wales...

Surely this is beyond the pale for supporter's groups? Am I right, Tim Hartley, chairman of the supporters' trust?

Tim Hartley said:
The recruitment of players has been a great success under Malky Mackay so at 23 we could be asking what experience Alisher Apsalyamov has got and, especially, of the British game? We're not concerned as yet, [but] we just don't want anything to unsettle the present set-up.

Ah. Personally, I would be concerned!!!

Lord Blackadder - Sterling, Zaha, and so on.

Indeed. I wonder if Wilshire has ever broached the subject with either?

I'd be concerned as well, your Lordship - that said, how independent from the club is the Cardiff Supporters' Trust? I ask because the Hull City OSC has been utterly toothless during our recent fun and games, and seems more concerned with maintaining a cosy relationship with the club rather than questioning what's going on.

On that note, a little update on recent efforts.

In general, I don't see it being a big issue. Of course, with England, Scotland and Wales the waters are muddied somewhat as you can't legally be a citizen of those countries - we're all classed as British so we have some separate agreements in place between us to settle certain issues of eligibility.

I suppose we'd all like to see national teams made up entirely of players born within their country's borders because that's basically the original idea of such matches, but the world is a more complex place than that and many people have dual nationalities or long periods of residency in other countries so this has to be taken into account. As long as an individual has a legitimate claim, it's a decision for them and the national FA in question to make.

That said, while I have no issue with an individual born in country X playing for country Y because he moved to the latter as a child and has spent most of his life there (as with Zaha and Sterling), I think it is stretching it a bit if a player chooses to play for a country he's moved to in later life purely for the purposes of playing football. It must be remembered though that at no point has Adnan Januzaj given any indication that that's his intent.

For what it's worth, I'm sure that Januzaj has no intention of playing for England - he's turned an increasingly strong-looking Belgium down on a couple of occasions, and reading between the lines it seems his preference would be to turn out for Kosovo. However, they're not currently recognised by FIFA so eventually he may turn to Albania who he's apparently expressed an interest in.

Unless of course he's just stalling and planning on stringing everyone along for the next five years until he qualifies to play for England. Because, you know, it's England. ;)
