@tweetie:
won 3:2 against Bremen and one rank ahead of you :) Well, Idon't think this will stay this way, looking at how close all the points of the other teams are in the 15-20 range. Also, judging from the summary Bremen made it sometimes easy for Mainz and Mainz was a bit stupid giving the 3:0 away.

Did someone see the Bayern-Dortmund game?
I saw a 10minute summary. Amazing how much Großkreutz ran, I find he is an interesting player anyway. Not really a media face or standing out in the masses, but very flexible along his abilities and a working horse.

Nice to see Mainz back in the game. Hertha faced the league's best the last matches and played very well in my opinion. Unfortunately there was nothing to gain though - seeing underdogs constantly winning points against the big dogs in the PL here and there doesn't really work in the BL. Anyway, we played good and missed a bit of luck so I have no doubt that the next matches will result in some fine points. We miss Baumjohann though!

BVB - FCB: kinda hard to watch - fortunately I wasn't watching it alone! Win prolly deserved but 2 goals too high. BVB missed too many sitters before conceding the first. Missing the complete back four payed it's tribute! Napoli will be much more important though - since they actually very played well against Bayern, I'm rather confident.
Großkreutz is a beast! Underrated, but very important for the squad. I'm very impressed by him, he improved himself a lot. Would hate to see him missing the WC - he's the perfect backup for multiple positions, always fighting 100% without losing it anymore!

PL: saw some extremely entertaining matches this WE. Good stuff!

here ya go fizz:

9 pts and Chelsea are through, top of their group. 12pts and it's still a maybe for Wenger's team.

Last night the kids of Ajax took a big step in the road of growing up.

Ajax 2 Barcelona 1
The first half they scored twice and easily held their own against Barcelona. It all could have so easily come to pieces, early in the second half, a bad mistake lead to a red card for Joël Veltman. Xavi scored from the penelty, and that should have been the end of Ajax. But they defended like true champions.

What happened to that Ajax fan falling down? Rumours said he died while being transported to the hospital. :(

Important win yesterday for BVB - so sloppy with their chances as usual but still. That group is really confusing re points / goal differences / direct comparison(s).

That's going to be a huge morale boost for Man Utd, but Leverkusen were very poor…the Mancunians are going to face far, far sterner tests in the next round of the CL.

Wasn't the last game against Leverkusen alos quite convincing and dominant - just to be followed by a dry spell within the league?

Anyway, good game yesterday! I think it was eventually the first time ever they thought of having quite good chances to win against ManU...before the game...love it! :D

Sturridge picked up a potentially serious injury in training…the rumor is ankle ligament damage with a recovery time in the 3 month range. No confirmation as yet.

This is bad.

Suarez is in excellent form but Liverpool rely heavily on both of their star strikers to carry the team. Maybe Iago Aspas will prove me wrong and start lighting up the league….

Good news for you in the short term though, Jaffa. ;)

The office Liverpool fan is going along tomorrow, and has been full of it all week about what a big Liverpool fan she is and how ace all the players are. However, I had to explain to her who John Barnes was.

Anyway, an important 'No to Hull Tigers' update for you all - here's a picture of a chicken in a tanktop.

That is a snazzy getup. :D

I'm a johnny-come-lately Liverpool fan and I'll be the first to admit it. But I at least have the excuse that I had no way of watching European football for most of my life…being an English football fan and not knowing who John Barnes is…that's inexcusable. Next thing you'll be telling me she's never heard of Jan Mølby.

that last line sounds as if it were straight out of Monty Python...

Mind the gap.

EDIT: Mourinho always has to ruin everything. ;)

Words fail.

I think it's clear at this point that Allam is unlikely to change his mind. The only thing that seems to have evolved out of this affair is that Allam's astonishment at the blowback over his proposed name change has evolved into hatred towards some invented band of "hooligan" fans who are trying to stymie him, while an equally fictional majority of fans support him. It's a dreamland.

His offer/threat to sell the club is about as believable as that of Mike Ashley.

It's a shame that to many of the new owners of football teams see their clubs as just another way of making money by ANY MEANS.:(

End of rant.

This weekend in the Eredivisie.

Friday
Roda JC 1-2 FC Twente
FC Twente beat Roda JC to top the table.

Saturday
PEC Zwolle 1-1 RKC Waalwijk
PEC Zwolle couldn’t beat RKC Waalwijk, Waalwijk have improved as the season gets longer, and PEC are beginning to level off.

Sunday
ADO Den Haag 0-4 Ajax
This was just like a training mission for Ajax after playing Barcelona mid week.

Feyenoord 3-1 PSV
The match was balanced until the second half, then PSV fell apart. Feyenoord even failed to convert a penalty and were not even in any danger of losing, PSV are now really in trouble. PSV had a player sent off, in the only red card of the weekend.

Vitesse 3-0 SC Cambuur
This was not so onesided as the score line looks, if the forwards of Cambuur had been more sharp the result would have been very different. That’s the main difference taking what chances you get and scoring from them.

Only one red card this week over nine games, I hope this means that the players are learning to play correctly.

The Eredivisie

1 Vitesse 30pts
2 Ajax 28pts
3 FC Twente 27pts

Hull City came out to play football today, and Liverpool looked limp.

Sturridge's absence is no excuse for the mauling either, the whole squad was outplayed. A good day out for your boys, Mr Cake. ;)

I expect to see a much better performance against Norwich, after Brendan Rogers spends the next week flogging his charges.

The top half of the table remains fairly tight - Liverpool are now just one loss away from 9th or 10th.
