Oh well dang! I had no idea. Awesome, sometimes I feel people here don’t get American football. I like it a lot, but football European style won me over.

You met your wife, who is English, in America during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia?

These things happen.

An Irish friend of mine, a teacher, met the Frenchman she would marry at a school where they both taught in Pakistan, though they didn't marry until they both landed teaching posts in Singapore some time later.

No, I was merely commenting on how interesting it was. I think it's rather sweet. We met at a rather cliche event, with my opening line being a silly joke. At least that's how I remember it.

Oh, agreed; it is interesting - and yes, rather sweet - how some people come to meet their partners/spouses/soulmates/significant others.

The topic is one of intense fascination for me. So many what-ifs and or just how mutual attraction occurs if there's only lone attraction at first. It's incredibly complex once you consider that underneath it all we're still an animal species.

Speaking of animal species, Neymar going down like a gazelle with half its arse bitten off by a lion in the morning?

Yup. We were both working out there. It's a long story. Met in July, engaged in September, married two years later.

I also bumped into an ex girlfriend of my distant cousin from Chicago at the same event.

Lol, well then I don’t blame you!
It was also 22 years ago!

Oh yeah those Olympics were awhile ago. It was a huge event around here. People were pumped!

Well the trend of this tournament continues. Flopping on overly physical play throughout the game. Surprised at Mbappe, but I think Suarez was talking trash earlier, so maybe that had something to do with it. Sure hope this is tournament over for Uruguay.

Good match. No idea what Mbappe was up to. Very unlike him and I couldn't make out what caused him to go flying.

France were the better team - and still would have been if Cavani had played - but Uruguay were legitimate dark horses. Had they been in the other side of the draw, they would have progressed farther. Disappointed to see them so muted without Cavani, despite Suarez's presence. To be honest, I would typically have rated Suarez as the better of the two strikers, but he seems to have declined noticeably in the last year.

Now France will hope that the Brazil-Belgium match is a nasty, drawn-out affair that wears out both sides. With Marouane "Elbows" Fellaini on the pitch who knows - we might see Neymar roll straight out of the stadium, just like the KFC commercial.

I was wondering the same. You think Uruguay has been saying stuff all game? Trying to get them going.
Probably took one look at Saurez's mug and went mental.

There was a lovely clip on YouTube that's since been taken down through a copyright claim of a Neymar flopping school for tykes.

Think regardless which wins from tonight’s exiting game will go to final from that half.
What I’ve seen from France haven’t impressed me much.
No, I didn’t see all match, just some glimpses. But...ididn’t sound exiting enough to watch from a distance.
