Yes, a fervent aspiration of mine, too, although - for a variety of reasons - I am no fan of Croatia's, either.
Nor I.

I do have a 6 pack riding on the Croats and whether or not they win the WC though... I still think they might.
[doublepost=1530928032][/doublepost]BEL or ENG are who I am rooting for...

Im rooting for England as they are my team.
But I'm also hoping for good games as we get to the finals.
The refereeing standards at this WC hasn't been up to par. Not taking charge of the games has encouraged the pushing, shoving, diving and crowding the ref.
We really need to stop this part of the beautiful game. After all the kids watching their heroes will replicate this up and down the country.

Oh, don't get me wrong, it's a big upset. Brazil are the more talented squad, but Belgium were the better team today. Some of that comes down to Martinez.

Just don't see why it's a big upset (Belgium is no underdog nor was Brazil a huuge favorite). And also disagree. Belgium played great - no discussion. Great players and a great team effort no question. But Brazil had tons of chances to score. Way more and way better chances than Belgium while the initial own goal played right into the counterattacking plans of Belgium (a plan I acknowledge but also get quite annoyed of nowadays - not the failure of Belgium of course but still) and Brazil could have gotten easily a penalty (Jesus) - so I just don't see where Belgium was that much better. They parked the bus and have world class counter attackers - that's basically it.

I suspect that Brazil are living in the past - sort of like an imperial power whose days of glory are long past - and still think of themselves in terms of being a global footballing power.

However, they are not as good as they were, and other teams have caught up to them and no longer hold them in a sort of awe, or a petrified respect. I think they have coasted on their reputation for far too long, whereas others have come to the conclusion that they are eminently beatable.

And, as was clear yesterday, they pulled the falling trick a few times too often, so that they lacked credibility when the situation may have arisen for real.

But, while Brazil may have had "tons of chances to score" they failed to take them and failed to convert them. That is profligate, careless, arrogant - maybe incompetent, but, above all, that is not the mark of a great team.

Compare and contrast that to Harry Kane's conversion rate of opportunity to goal.

Oh agree. Let the football do the talking.

Looking forward the the matches.
Cormier fight anyone?
Likewise. Well as soon as the British F1 qualifying finishes.

funny how some people were saying brazil is good and neymar is the only good player in south america. then when Belgium destroyed brazil they say "im glad belgium won" lol #BandwagonFans...im glad brazil lost, never liked them.

Halfway there. Feel we need a goal though as I'm sure they will score. I'd love it to come from open play.
Stirling came closest. The second attempt he should have passed.

Well nice goal from England, I think they’ll go through but mot counting my eggs yet. Croatia will be the first real team Russia has faced although they got lucky on penalties last time round.

Personally, I never liked Neymar and never much cared for Brazil, and certainly didn't - and don't - worship at the altar of Central or South American football.

And privately, whenever any south American team plays any European team, I hope the European team wins.

For the Europeans writing on this thread, you won't find anyone belatedly clambering on board a "bandwagon" probably because they have long been aboard already, as they would have liked to have seen Belgium - who have never won the competition - do extremely well.

Having said that, I would have welcomed Senegal and Japan doing better than they did; both teams graced the tournament, unlike the south Americans.

Another goal after sustained pressure from England! Not the Spurs man or the Harry I was expecting to score today.

Good to see another goal scored by England, and good, too, to see that it is Not Harry The Man; the rest of the team need to absorb and internalise the message that they, too, can score (Sterling missed a sitter before half-time), otherwise, they run the risk of being too reliant on Harry The Man.

Sweden will have a bit of a struggle to come back from this.

And a vital save and block.

Come on England!

Yes, I must say I really like Pickford, (his heroics at Sunderland the season before last meant that things were a lot less worse than they might have been) and like his attitude; a decent, modest and likeable guy and an excellent goalkeeper with a terrific work ethic.

That was his second superb save of the day.

And both at vital times. Daring to believe at the moment!
[doublepost=1530977281][/doublepost]And another cracking save!
[doublepost=1530978379][/doublepost]Settle down McGuire. Silly free kick to give away.

Sooo boooring match.
This is why I more often watch the ladies, then the guys.
But not so often these days either, actually.
England deserved it.
Thought Sweden could do a better tactical game. This was crap.

Actually I rather enjoyed it! ;)

In truth the game was enjoyable for me. Not just the result, but the way both sides didn't try and cheat, dive and hack the opposition.
Played well at the back and created some good chances.
I do feel Stirling is destined to not score at this WC. I'd have given Rashford a chance sooner.
Pickford the pick (pun intended!) of the bunch for me. A vital save each side of halftime.

Hope Russia can beat Croatia as I think that would be the easier game.
