Man City and Chelsea where binging on goals today. At least Man U got a win also, but they are going have to man up to get on level with MC.
Or just beat them when they play.
Goal difference only matters if your equal on points.
But Man City looked very good against weak opponents.

Apparently the Spurs players wanted to swap shirts during the match at West Ham, but the referee must have been a Spurs fan.

A pair of fast-paced 3-2 wins for both my teams today. Columbus got a crucial win over New York Energy Drinks. Some excellent goals from the Crew, Justin Meram getting the winner with a classic 1v1 dribble and shoot move. NY looked OK but not great, and really it could very easily have been a 3-0 win but for some bone-headed defending. Columbus are very close to locking up a playoff spot, but with three games left they really need to win their single remaining home game against going-nowhere DC United, as the final two road matches will be tough.

Speaking of bone-headed defending, Liverpool are still leaking like a sieve, but against Leicester they at least scored plenty. Still, you never want to rely on saving penalties to win games.

Liverpool draw again in Europe - but an away match in Russia is always a tough task. There were enough chances created to win the match, I'm disappointed in the finishing. For once, you could argue that Liverpool's defense were not the main culprit.

A much needed win for West Ham yesterday. Puts a little breathing space between us and the bottom and takes a bit of pressure off of Billic.
Just need to follow that up after the international break.

Guess you were pleasantly surprised then! :)

On the road while we were playing and literally jumped up and shouted in Burger King when I'd seen the final score. :)

Nice result for the Owls!

Liverpool held again, and the armchair punditry over what is wrong is going into overdrive. The narrative has taken a remarkable U-turn, with Liverpool's inability to score now seen as the crux of the issue rather than poor defending. Razor-sharp analysis here, folks.

Liverpool dominate games but don't get the results. Klopp is never going to adopt the boring-but effective tactics that underpin the success of teams like Atleti and any Mourinho team - nor does Liverpool have the financial might to bring in the very best players like Man City, PSG or Real/Barca. So I think Liverpool are probably near the glass ceiling if they can manage to finish fourth again. It's hardly surprising to see Liverpool's offense struggle against a Benitez team.

Columbus with a solid win in the final home game if the regular season, 2-0 over bottom feeders DC United. Justin Meram with yet another lovely 1v1 dribble and goal. Berhalter has actually gotten Columbus to build from the back fairly successfully this season - we're not going to win anything (Toronto is going to steamroll the postseason anyway) but at least we made the playoffs. The big worry is that it is increasingly looking like Higuain, our creative fulcrum, may be leaving in the off-season. It's rare to see an MLS team try to play a possession game, and while it won't win titles I think Columbus are showing that it can be done in this league.

Heynckes appointed until end of season. Not really sure why he came back. The manager isn't really the problem...its complacency on Bayern part because they're guaranteed the Bundesliga every season. Why Arjen Robben 33, and Frank Ribery 34 are still their 1st choice wingers i dunno. Why they sold Douglas Costa i dunno. Why they been frugal in the transfer market...only bringing in James on-loan i dunno. The team is stale and filled with egos.

I know they don't get the same money as the EPL clubs but they aren't broke either.

Heynckes left a great legacy, and i don't see how this spell will end positively. Winning the Bundesliga again won't really be remarkable. Its already unremarkable now.

I wonder where Ancelotti will end up next. If i were Everton, West Ham, Arsenal and even Liverpool i'd be making enquiries.

I had very little confidence going into the USA v Panama match, but Pulisic came up big with a wonderful early goal and it got better from there, with Altidore scoring twice (one from a Pulisic cross, one a Panenka PK) and Wood getting the fourth. 4-0 in the end. Panama were, as usual, hard working, defensive and very dirty. They created a couple chances on breaks but I only recall Tim Howard having to make one save during the match.

All the major problems still remain - Arena is relying on proven players he knows (mostly MLS players), the tactics are simple, and we really have no star players in their prime. But qualifying out of CONCACAF, despite being a slog, is ultimately well within the capabilities of even an average USA squad.

I'm still not holding out any major hopes for us to do anything at the World Cup itself, but as Pulisic continues to develop, who knows? I think the approach going forward is going to be, "create space for Pulisic and get him the ball".

Heynckes appointed until end of season. Not really sure why he came back.

Heynckes is just a stopgap to tide them over till they bring in a new manager next season, with the odds pointing towards Julian Nagelsmann.

Heartbreak for Wales as they are knocked out by Republic of Ireland. It's hard not to indulge in a little "what if" considering Bale was unable to play...
